Whatever works for you is always best - go outside when the weather is nice & save the gym for rainy days. Your options are greater outdoors: jogging, mountain biking, hiking, canoeing etc. On the other hand some people think gyms are quite pricey and don't want to waste their money by not going. Bottom line - it's all good!

well fitness and weight loss huh?
you have to to find what works best for you.
for me i dont feel comfortable doing treadmills so i run at the park but for resistance training, it has gotta be the gym with exceptions to doing chin ups, push ups and sometimes abdominal training which i do either at the gym or at home.
its about you tailoring to your own needs, finding where and how to get yourself out of comfort zones and yet knowing your limits and breaking them, to find yourself faced with new challenges.

For a starter... try running 5 km at the park and do 4 sets of 50 push ups, 4 sets of 30 crunches alternating the push ups... start progressively...this is just an idea, lower the figures until you feel comfortable.

Anywhere you feel comfortable and stimulated to work out! Gyms don't work for me (they work for my fiance). I prefer the outdoor kind, badminton, basketball and other sports..
We have formed a group of 5 in my building. We make time out every alternative day to go out and play! And they always come around to drag you out, so that even though you might be feeling a little lazy, you still get up and go!

Gym i think better.
But for weight loss you need cardio, so running outside is o.k too.
