Why would you want to chance missing some once in a lifetime photos?
You warranty on the camera would be void.. and it doesn't pay to fix them...

If the camera is off then pull the battery and memory card and leave it to dry. If it fell in salt water wash it out a couple of times to get the salt off. If you feel confident enough to open it than use a hair drier to dry it. If not than put your oven on the lowest setting and leave the oven door cracked to dry it out quickly. If the camera was on then try the above. The camera might not be salvageable but the photos on the card might be saved.

if it's under warranty then i'd call and see if that voids it, insurance may cover it too. my wife has dropped her cellphone in the toilet before and this was how i fixed it:
immediately turn it off and remove the power source (batteries). now take it all apart and keep track of where everything goes ( i used a digicam to document the procedure, you might not have that luxury ;( Now get a hair dryer and completely dry all of the parts, avoid letting the components get too hot. leave it in pieces overnight and put it back together after about 24 hours or so. better to err on the side of caution and wait until it is completely dry. if it doesn't work when you put it together, try new batteries and see if that works. i wish you luck. oh btw, if there were pics on it, you might be able to access them using a card reader ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820176009 )

Dry it out really good. Try it out. If it works. If it doesn't---time for another camera, I guess. Might be able to send it to the manufacturer but if the moisture has done any damage I doubt there's much they could do about it. Maybe only temp. fix.
