I would recommend a Quarter Horses. They are stocky, but athletic. They excel in both Western and English disciplines. They are usually pretty calm and have a great temperment. They are very smart as well.

I am not sure about barrel racing as I don't follow Western riding at all, but another good all-purpose horse is an Arabian. They can be a bit hot-headed, and the mares tend to have attitudes, but they are extremely intelligent, and very versatile. They tend to be a bit smaller in size than a Quarter Horse, but make up for it with their heart. They are also absolutely gorgeous!

Almost any horse can do it all. Their training and personality are the most important traits. If you are considering buying a horse, remember there are a lot of expenses related to them, vet bills, farrier, boarding, tack, grooming equipment, food, etc. You also want to make sure when you are looking at horses that you groom them to see how they are on the cross ties and to work around, and the ever important test ride. You want a horse that suits your skill level and your personality.

Good luck!

You're going to want a horse that's athletic enough to handle all these disciplines. I see a lot of people are recommending regular Quarter Horses, but many of them have a downhill build that's not suitable for rigorous jumping. An Appendix, though (A Quarter Horse-Thoroughbred cross) might be more suitable. The TB influence would give it a bit more athleticism and probably a little more leg so it could handle the jumps and the barrels. It would probably be a little saner than a straight TB, but a little more versatile than a QH.

Thoroughbreds are good, but they can be a little high strung especially off of the track. Quarter horses are great for first horses or beginners, but are pretty poor movers so they're not typically used in the hunters/jumpers/equitation. They're perfect for jumping and small shows and at home, though. They are breed to do western roaping, barrel racing, etc. A QH x TB is great too and can be used in h/j/eq., but not the best movers.

I wager they have been protesting on the Kentucky Horse Park because of the fact the Rolex Kentucky 3 Day experience replaced into held there these days. curiously dressage, bypass u . s . leaping, and instruct leaping are abusive in the direction of horses. Any horse could properly be fatally injured. My sister's mare had to be euthanized when you have kicked interior the shoulder by skill of yet another horse. A deadly injury to a horse that replaced into on no account a racehorse. Years in the past, my mom bought a 2 year old filly, and the recent proprietors had basically gotten her domicile and have been unloading her from the trailer while she reared and broke her leg on the trailer partition. A deadly injury to a horse that replaced into no longer a racehorse. So no, it fairly is not the appropriate option to assume that a horse won't get fatally injured if it on no account will become a racehorse. Of each and all the races at Churchill Downs final Saturday, 8 Belles replaced into the only horse to go through a deadly injury. What occurred to her is a hazard each and every proprietor and coach takes while they enter their horses in races. PETA basically needs interest. do no longer supply it to them.

The most common horse in the world is the Quarter Horse because of it's great all-around use. keep in mind that specfic features make a horse better at one thing and worse at another. a horse who is moderate will be better at being an all around horse but will be unlikely to excel at any individual task. another choice i'd recommed would be a polish arab which is often built very similarly to the quarter horse. good luck!

Quarter Horse, but if you want to do jumping AND barrel racing on it, it will have to be a pretty versatile horse.

I would say that a Quarter Horse would be your best bet. I do have to agree with Jeep Girl about Arabians. One of my first horses was half Arabian, and he was a great horse.
