My 5 year old son is rather fussy when it comes to food. Lately, he's refusing to take his milk. I've tried to change milk powder, but its even worse. He doesn't llike soya milk either. I'm worried, what other food can I give him instead which can substitute and has all the same goodness as milk!!

Try yogurt or cheeses. They have chocolate or strawberry skim milk. I know that these are sweeter than regular milk, but some just don't like milk. Getting calcium is critical for bones at his age.
Good luck.

I don't know why he has to drink powder milk at 5 years old, can't he drink plain cow milk?
You shouldn't worry, just give him something else he likes. Eventually he may like some kind of cheese or yogurt.
Give him orange juice and some spreadable chees on bread for breakfast.
Did you ever drink soya milk or powder milk? It's quite disgusting for most of the people! Stop giving it to him will do no harm, believe me! :-)

Have you tried mixing his milk with chocolate syrup, or Nestles Quick Strawberry powder mix? Or try cheese. The Cheese String would be OK, as its fun to eat. You can also try yogurt. Another way to make it fun is to buy the smaller cartons of fruit yogurt and put a popcicle stick in it and place it in the freezer. It will be like an ice cream for him, and also fun to eat. And there is also his morning ceral. He may not drink it all up, but at least he is getting a little bit as he eats. Don't force it and try to make it fun for him. Good luck!!

My son has done this to me as well. Not with milk, but with a lot of other foods (hamburger meat, vegetables, fruit, etc.) He is very picky eater too and it is so frustrating for me when I have to go to the grocery store. It got to the point where all he would eat was cereal because that's what he likes. I got so fed up with it that I sat down and talked with him about healthy food and what they can do for your body. I told him from then on that he wouldn't be allowed to eat just cereal.

When I put a meal on the table, I put the same meal for him as well. If he didn't want to eat it and decided he would throw a tantrum, I would have him leave the table for a while and then told him to return to eat his meal. Once he figured out that he wasn't getting his way anymore and that he would eventually have to eat the meal or go hungry, he started to eat the same things the rest of us did. And he liked it!

I think kids will do this to see if they can get away with just eating what they want to eat. If they throw a big enough tantrum, they will eventually get what they want. And as long as you stay firm with your decision on how to conquer this, it will get better. My son will now eat broccoli, peas, oranges, and yes even hamburger meat!

I have the same problem with a 4 year old. She doesn't like to drink milk. She won't even drink chocolate milk. After she drinks limk she says her belly hurts. So we don't give her milk very often. She does drink yogurt drinks, eat's cheese, ice cream. I think she just doesn't like milk. I don't like milk.

You can take yogurt and make it into a smoothie, or even into frozen yogurt (we make frozen yogurt all the time) Take a container of yogurt and freeze it. (It helps to pour it into a bigger container so it freezes faster) after it's frozen put it in the blender till it's like ice cream. We usually use fruit flavored yogurt. You can also use vanilla and add a bit of chocolate syrup or powder.

Our smoothies are made with yogurt, juice, and fruit. Mix it up. We have done many diffrient smoothie mixes. I even let the kids pick what they wanted to put in it. My 4 and 2 year old love to "help" make smoothies and frozen yogurt.

I also have to agree why is he drinking powdered milk. It is absolutley terrible tasting. A simple 2% milk is fine for him to drink.

Well you could be a stickler and say it's water or milk. After a few days of only water he'll probably be chugging milk or you could just add dairy into other parts of his diet.

As much as I am against it, have you tried giving him chocolate milk?
