yup its china in the USA too. But so ironic though, one of my local news channels did a story on this...and in the USA if you dig a hole in nearly every spot of the USA you will end up in the ocean...i forget which but that guy up there had it right. and in a few states you will get land. there is a small island that we would hit if we actually dug a hole straight through the earth in a few states. Kinda takes the fun out of the joke but still quite funny when you think about it. i remember they gave the destinations of a lot of countries if they dug..and ARGENTINA is the only country you can dig to china if you dig a straight line all the way through.

We in North America say the same thing, because China is somewhat on the other side of the world, although if I were to dig an absolutely straight, perpendicular shaft, it would more likely emerge in Australia or thereabouts. Naturally, if you were to do the same, it would most likely emerge in or near North America. There is a problem, though. The core of the planet is a gigantic, superhot crystal of iron. One would have to detour around it and possibly emerge in China.

As far as I know, all Americans say the same thing. As a child, I sincerely believed that and my parents LET me believe it as I spent more than one quiet afternoon industriously digging a hole to China.

Here in the USofA we say the same thing - CHINA. [Actually tho, I think it would depend on the actual angle of ur hole-diggin...If we assume one digs straight down, as at the same angle & continuing on the same 3-D angle u'd get by following the extension of the string holdin' a plunb-bob, (u follow me so far?,) from the US, (most locations,) one would come out (I think,) somewhere 'round the middle of the Indian Ocean...WEST of Australia! &, if I'm thinkin right as far as u guys "down under" - (that's what we say 'bout u dudes [& dudettes] in Australia...hmmm?? y'don't, by any chance refer to us, or rather, the US & the the "limeys" over there in old England as "up-overs', do ya?...mmm, didn't think so...do u call us "yanks"?..like the Brits do? [just curious..]..Anyways, I think if u folks in Australia were 2 dig a perpendicular down (extention of the plumb-bob string again,) it would come out somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, EAST (& maybe south) of us here in the US. So technically, neither of us is correct, but IF the Brits say "CHINA", then I think I know where we got that saying! Cuz y'all down there 'down under' & we'uns here in the US have somethin in common...I think..prob'ly most all of our ancesters came from the same area - yup, u guessed it - the British Isles! (Wonder what they say in China?!?! [Prob'ly nothin'...them commies don't have time 4 diggin holes when they're young, or any other time either! No offense if u happen 2 b a communist!-just jokin' - 4 real1]

We Americans are lazy. Even our kids. We all dig a hole for ..like.. two minutes. China is a pipe dream.
Then we go to McDonalds. And rent videos and sleep in our gigantic houses.

If you look a a map or globe with latitude and longitude. You will notice that the 105 Latitude and 45 longitude in the US will match with Mongolia. So the news report was inaccurate regarding coming up in the ocean.

No jokes like that here in the Philippines.
We just say that if one digs deeper a pot of gold awaits them.
There are many treasure hunters here.

Yes, that is the same thing I was told in America. I was also told to eat all my food because there were starving children in China.
