I hear all the time that the US is oil hungry, and that the US is over in Iraq, not for Operation Iraqi Freedom, but for oil. Can anyone actually prove that. Can anyone actually prove that oil is the main cause for the invasion? If you say yes, charts, statistics, observations, anything with credible research can help prove the Great Oil Theory. Don;t just say some liberal statement that war is bad mannnnnn, with a joint in your mouth and a bandanna around your head. Have real conclusive data proving the oil theory. If not doesn't it seem correct that the US is doing some really good things for us, possibly the inability for another terrorist attack on our soil. I mean 9/11 happened to CIVILIANS of the US, not military. Did the janitor cleaning the toilets in the WTC tower deserve to be bombed by a radical muslim? I think not, di the janitor oil for his mop bucket, I dont think so.

Very good question! I wouldn't hold my breath for any from the left to answer this the way you asked. And it is a fair question, after all the accusations they throw at our president are pretty harsh. but you and I both know liberalism as it is today is not based in or on reality. they can't win in the arena of ideas on this or any subject for that matter by using proof and facts. So their tactic is to tear down the character of those who dare to challenge them. They rely on their followers to get caught up in the emotion of their words and hope they don't do any research of their own, and from what I've read on here about 90% of the professed liberals who post on here are exactly as their leaders in Washington want them to be. Todays liberalism is a childish attept to figure out adult issues. As far as oil being important in Iraq you bet it is. If we cut and run and let the terrorists and Iran and Syria get a hold of it they will be able to put a real hurt on the worlds economy. Now I will not be surprised if someone from the left turns my post here in to yahoo for a violation. I have gotten many such violation notices that the person who sent it in say I am insulting. Yet I never use any curse or demeaning language as to their intellect (well one out of two isn't bad) like they are prone to do. i hold these violation notices in high regard and am proud of them lol I will check your question often over the next few days to marvel once again at liberal answers they never cease to amuse and amaze me. Or they might choose to ignore it. We'll see.

Simple answer is NO. Unfortunately the media and politicians try to boil everything down to simple one word reasons, for oil, fight terrorism, build democracy, and so on. The current conflict is an extension of the 'Gulf War' when Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. Since that time there had been cease fire agreement with terms spelled out for Iraq. The failure to abide by and meet these is one reason why we are there now. Because of the large oil reserves in the region, not just in Iraq, it is beneficial to the world economies that the region be kept a stable as possible and Saddam Hussein was seen as a destabilizing force. The ethnic cleansing issues are another reason. I'm sure there are more but these are the major ones. In my humble opinion the reason we are there is the failure of the world leaders to properly address the Middle Eastern problem following Word War I.

Add all of this up and then it can be understood why we are there.
Again the politician don't feel the American public can understand all this. (I would have to agree when less than half can't find Iraq on a map) And the media don't go through all this because it doesn't sell.( the average person today in this country doesn't have the attention span)

sure would have been cheaper to have just bought the oil.

There are so many opinions out there that very few would even recognize the truth if it was in their face. People want to believe some conspirasy abut Iraq and many other things.

In truth most do not give a S-h-i-t one way ot the other. Just a way to be noticed. If people in the USA realy cared then they would get out and help the good people and vote for the good people. Most just can't be bothered.

i don't understand why people think oil wouldn't drive us to Iraq? I'm not a liberal i'm just a realist. and looking at the facts america needs oil, were dependent on it , it pumps billions into our economy through people with money invested in oil, America needs oil to keep many of the things that make us so wealthy up and running. Oh and lets not forget ol' G dubya's ties to the oil industry, as well as his friends ties, and the oil pipes that are already being built in Iraq and Afghanistan! Now i'm not saying that's why we went there but it is one reason we have to stay there now... but is probably does have something to do with why were picked Iraq, the mid-east second largest oil having country to accuse of having "weapons of mass destruction" It does also hold true to history being that we stepped in to bail out Kuwait and keep Saudi Arabia safe when Iraq invaded. There are two reasons we care who is in control in the middle east, the first being they hate us, the second being we need their oil, and they are tied together, the saudi regime is almost as oppressive as Saddam was yet we do nothing about it!

Oil was just one of the reasons but the main reason was Israeli and Zionism interests in the Middle East and the world and not the interest of the USA
Saddam was working on political and military project to establish one strong Arab nation able to create the strategical balance with Israel and to develop Arab countries to be advanced in all fields of life.

the U.S. IS oil-hungry..they want it from wherever they can get it. But it's too late now. All of the other countries in the world know our modus operandi. Bush calls for alternative energy- as he has been for months. So, what is happening? Has anyone looked further or closer than the Middle East. Do you REALLY believe that Bush put so many in harm's way for BROWN people? omg. Or that he wanted to provide liberty, freedom and democracy for BROWN people. omg, o....so I;m wrong? After all he has Condi. and she's brown..Bush wants the oil. All of the hotshots want the oil. Open your eyes and brush off your brain... and btw, we still don't know who was responsible for 911. We just don't REALLY know.

OMG!!! Somebody on here with a brain!!!! I can't believe people would seriously think that we would go to war with Iraq because of oil. I agree with your question 100000%!!!!!

People tend to forget that Saddam Hussein was the equivalent of Hitler!
