I had this experience only two weeks ago, it lasted for a week, it felt like there was something stuck in my throat, but mine came with sever chest pains through the centre and radiating out to the sides, not being able to eat without pain and feeling sick. I went through a whole pile of tests (and money) and all I know from this is that I am not going to die (not in the near future anyway) and I don't have a blood clot in the lung. I am starting to think like jigfam that it is a stress related problem, not that the doctors mentioned this, as I have been working under a lot of pressure, as well as personal pressures. Try and do some relaxation and decrease any stress in you life if you can and see if it gets better.
Good luck with it, hope it goes away for you because it is not fun.

I have had this problem in the past - it was caused by stress due to working with a boss who was just horrible. When the specialist discovered that there wasn't a physical cause to my symptoms, he asked me all about my home and work life etc. He quickly worked out that my symptoms were stress related and advised me to see change my job. I did some retraining at TAFE and have not had the problem since. When I found out what was causing the throat problems I felt more able to cope with it. As strange as it sounds, I also found that spending 30 minutes or so a day looking at an oil and sand picture (or lava lamp since I don't think those pictures are around anymore) very relaxing. Hope this helps.
It is not mucus but the muscles in your throat tightening.

I know stress can make you feel as though you have something in the back of your throat, even though there is nothing there.
It is a horrible feeling.
