u didn't tell, what kind of file it is?

may be it is shortcut to one file which is located to somewhere in the servers! if this is shortcut then u have to copy that file not to create shortcut.

be precise whether that is shortcut or u copied a file?

Check the file type that you have saved on the system.
if it is an internet explorer file or in mail format, then it needs to be open in internet explorer.Check by right clicking on the file and then select open with, choose program from the list and then open with the program for that file. may be it is shortcut to one file which is located to somewhere in the servers! if this is shortcut then u have to copy that file not to create shortcut.
