The beauty of the PGA, is that it is a tour that you make based on your current ability. You go to Q-school, and if you qualify, you get your tour card. And since you can play competitive golf well into your 40's, starting at 22 is no big deal.

It's definitely not too old, but regardless of your age, it is very difficult to make the PGA Tour. That being said, I think you should go for it -- you don't want to regret not trying. If you work hard enough (and believe me, it will take a lot of work) and want it badly enough, you just might do it. Stranger things have happened. Good luck! BTW, I'm a female PGA professional (club pro) who passed the playing ability test (from the same tees as all of the young guys) at the age of 39 and became a Class A PGA Professional at the age of 41.

The great thing about the PGA tour is that if you start at the age of 22, you still will have over 20 years to play until you move to the champions tour. so if you try hard right now, you could possibly be playing on the tour next to Tiger Woods one day. That would be my dream if not everyones.

22 years of age is deifintely not too old to strive for the PGA Tour. You figure that if some of the players of today are coming out of the college ranks, they are close to 22 when they graduate. If you have the dream to go on the PGA Tour at that age, then go for it with tenacity. Do not become discouraged. One of the hardest tournaments a golfer goes through is qualifying school.

I turned pro 2 years ago, but im female & i know how difficult it is to break into the professional playing scene. There are many different avenues you can access inside the golf industry & the tournament playing side is only one part of a massive field. You could look at gaining your teaching qualifications & teaching for a living. But i know that i play against people that have trained & practices everyday since they were 5 in order to turn pro & crack the usa circuit. I think unless your a natural genius & have unbelievable natural ability, you will definately struggle. I actually think it would be near impossible. But best of luck if you want to give it a shot. Contact your local P.G.A office to see what requirements you need to meet in order to turn pro. Every country has a different set of regulations for joining the pga. In Australia it is a three year full-time traineeship that involves work, playing, assigments & intensive schools. Just remember to play the tour your competing against people that have made golf there lives for the past 20 years. But best of luck anyways!!!

I would recommend that you try some amateur tournaments to see if your game fits the competitive mode. Playing with friends is way different from playing a real tournament. To answer your question you have nothing to lose by trying heck Im 38 and my game is getting to the point where Im considering trying to qualify for the nationwide tour. Two things you need most is a game and a mental game. Get those two going together and it can happen.

My dad is a golf player. He has played since the past 35 years and can make a guy half his age squirm with his handicap. He played for India since we are from India, and he played for Asian tournaments. Ofcourse he never made it to the PGA but I guess he could have if he tried. But he never did. I was always proud to have a dad who played amazing Golf. So I say to you, go out there and perform. You can easily win if you are 22 years only. My dad said one thing only. "Just do it" (Nike). Bye
