Following Jesus casting demons out of some men, the demons went into the pigs and ran off the cliff.

"Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region"

Isn't that strange? They wanted Jesus to leave. They must have been more concerned about the pigs than the demon-possessed men. Also I wondered why there would be some pigs there since the Jews didn't eat pigs did they? Were they for the Roman soldiers then?

he was in Gerasenes, these people were not Jews. And yes they were more worried about the money lost then the fact he healed the man.

There is a book written bu Dr. Gene Scott called, Lord, Deliver me From My Problems, Just Let Me Keep My Pigs .

I find it interesting that the pigs were where this possessed man was, and he was a terror to the people that kept them. They were insolent, thankless people who had been delievered of a man that was violent, and so strong that there weren't any chains that could keep him bound.

I would note that not all that lived in Israel were Jewish, and not all the Jews were practicing Jews. I believe that there was probably a lack of pigs in Israel at the time, and those that eat that kind of meat were in need. Money determines our direction at times.

All of this conjecture reminds me of something my Pastor once said on a Sunday morning. He said man is so full of doubt, that Christ could walk in on a funeral service. He could raise the dead person to life, and yet, even though all would see, they would still not believe. Why did the crowds yell to save Barnabas instead of Jesus? They saw, but they still did not believe!

As for the pigs, the people in that area were not Hebrews. The ways of the Jews did not matter to them.

They were concerned yes about the pigs because they lost livestock, Remember it was not in Jewish settlement where all this took place but in the wilderness. And one other thing not all jews obeyed what God told them so others would have pigs.
