I've started working on my degree, which means I work 10-10PM most days with 1hr lunch with lab mates. Even though I'm surrounded by people I feel lonely. Valentine's day sucked because I was working all night by my lonesome since all my buddies have girls.
Aside from getting a girlfriend, what's a good way to not worry about girls. At least until I graduate.

Exercise helps. Burnt of those extra energy. Then you will be tired enough to sleep and not to think of anything else.

With all of your work where do find the time to be lonely?
I don't really understand your question-- it sucks to be lonely, you don't want to think about girls.
IF you do want friendships being seen is the key. Be in the same place at the same time everyday or at least often. People will get used to seeing you and they will just start waving or even greeting you. You need to pay attention to others too, so when you do make contact you could say something like " didn't see you the other day, is there a better spot than this?" or if they have school type books, " whats your major?" could be kinda cheesy but it works!
IF you don't want that kind of friendship go to church, you will definitely have your mind on other things besides girls.
Have fun, good luck!

I feel the same way (except from a high school perspective). Valentines Day (Singles Awareness Day - SAD) was kinda depressing actually...all the couples sharing joy and everything and the singles trying to show support but still feeling lost/lonely at the same time. What my friends decided to do was have like a secret valentine thing where we'd trade gifts on valentines day. It actually made me feel alot better.
I'm lucky to have some good friends who are in the same boat as me. Although at times i really feel down because i just long for someone to love and talk to, my friends are always there for me. I'm not saying go plan some gift giving with your friends. But share with your other friends in the singleness of life so that when the occasional lonely attack comes by, at least you're not alone in the feelling.

I know the feeling, I work 11pm to 7 pm. I'm the only one in the office at night. I sleep from 8-9 am till 2 pm. when my wife goes to work, and pretty much take care of my 3 children till I go to work at 11pm. I have at best a 7 year old to have a conversation with. It gets pretty lonely and depressing. I think it has definately had an effect on my mental health. Anyway, If your around people and still feel lonely, I don't know what to tell ya man. Since a girlfriend is not on your agenda maybe you need to make some friends. Get to know some of you lab mates.

Just get a "Judy" doll and a puncture kit- Okay on the down side it wont cook for you and I really hope she dont kiss you back but on the bright side she wont nag you when you wanna go out with your buddies....
Other than that if you work in a lab you could become a speed cook or a designer drug king pin- then you would have money for your tutiion and youd have all the college girls you could poke a stick at

i know how you feel man... loneliness is the worst kind of pain. well just try to keep yourself busy by doing thinks you like. you just need to relax and have free time. but since you are working towards your degree that long, it will be worth it some day. who knows, you might become a billionaire and not have to work ever again and have any schedule you'd like. make sure you find a girl along the way so they aren't with you for the money though.

Sometimes just talking with old friends will help. When I am feeling pretty lonely, I will call up an old friend and just talk for a while. Sometimes one of your friends at the lab may sense it and invite you or you ask them if you can hang out with them for a couple of hours. You might be surprised at what might change your mood.

Exercise- take a walk and unwind-just enjoy life. Don't feel pressured to find THE girl, but don't pass up the chance if it comes to you either.

I could not be much more lonely than I am. I'm just like you except I'm NOT surrounded by people. I've found it is best to just ignore all of it and live your life.
