Find an old catholic bible, find a copy of the Torah, and: some of the books are available on line. Forget anything that isn't in the Torah. Read the Maccabees, the Wisdom of Daniel, Susana, and the like. They were not included in our present Bible because Jesus never quoted from them. I don't need any more than my present Bible to be complete. Only book I know that was never quoted by Jesus or his disciples was the book of Esther. God is never mentioned in the book, yet it is included.

Step 1: Go to a bookstore.
Step 2: Search in the religion section for books about the alternate gospels, such as Judas, Mary Magdalene, Thomas, Gnostic, etc. Select one or two to start.
Step 3: Purchase one or two of your selections.
Step 4: Take the selected book(s) home and read them.
An alternate might be to visit the library in your city/town and see if any such books are available. Also ask the librarian if any are available in other libraries.

I'm not Catholic but I think some Bibles Catholics use may have some of them in it. Also, look for the Apocrypha at a book store etc. These books were not part of the Bible because it's felt they are not the inspired word of God and some contradict one another. Gods sovereignty, power, creation, love, need to be central. As does the life, teachings, sacrifice, crucifixion, of Jesus. They need to teach that it's by grace (the grace of God) that we're saved through faith.

Clearly there were other inspired writings. Paul mentions letters he wrote which are not known, BUT what is there is SUFFICIENT. MOST of the books which are available are considered PSEUDOPIGRAPHA, that is, they were not written by the person which is claimed.

1Corinthians 5:9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—

Colossians 4:16 After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea.

... both of these mention Pauline letters which were not preserved or are unknown.

Just search them through google... Gospel of the Ebonites, Gospel of the nazarens, Gospel of Thomas, Infancy Gospel of Thomas, Secret Gospel of Mark... or just plainly search gnostic gospels... note these gospels all came from the imagination of the gnostic but there are more formal text such as shepheard of hermas that was accepted in the church at first and there is also authentic writings of early christians for example 1 clement, didache... and so on.
