For example, many Christians say this:
"Even though the Crusades slaughtered many innocent people, Christianity isn't responsible because the Crusaders weren't real Christians"

Blindness. An inability to accept that a) Christians can and sometimes do do terrible things in the name of God and b) Christian dogma and the attitudes about killing have changed over time just like clothing fashions.

I've noticed that some Christians don't seem to have a problem blaming modern Jews for a mythical event 2000 years in the past, but refuse to accept any responsability for the monstrous actions of their religious predecessors.

I don't know about your example as it seems shallow. But to your question, the response is that we all, whether Christian or not, do evil. It is in our fallen nature to seek our own ends and not God's.

The difference is that the believer realizes that there is a higher moral authority to answer to, hence, we understand evil as a moral wrong in this world, and feel repentent when we do evil.

Non-believers do not make not a rational decision in their belief, but rather a moral one. The non-believer's key focus is to remove external constraints so that one can live as one wishes, without true regard to an authority. This moral choice is the very first sin.

Evil means to cause harm to come upon someone. The bible talks about God being evil in several places. Evil doesn't always mean sin. So human evil usually is sin but Godly evil isn't and it is hard for humans to do evil without sinning, but that doesn't mean you aren't a Christian. Christian just means Christ like and a believer in Jesus Christ who is trying to live for Christ.

After Adam sinned and disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, sin entered in because they ate of the forbidden fruit. Before they ate of it there was no sin because Adam and Eve were made in the image of God after His likeness and He is a Holy God and no evil in Him. So from that time on every one was born sinners. So man kind was now being ruled by the god of this world who is Satan, (the devil) the evil one, as he also rebelled and went against God and was kicked out of heaven and he is enticing people into serving him, and there is no good thing in him. The only way that people will ever stop sinning is when they go to heaven, but as we serve Him we will not want to sin, because we want to please the one who died for us and loves us. The only way we will get to heaven is by believing in Jesus who died for the remission of our sins, and when we receive Him into our lives, we become new creatures in Him and we then have to renew our minds and not want to sin, and He will help us, But if and when we do sin, we need to repent and confess our sins to Him and He will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness and go on with our walk with HIm. Now of course if it is murder etc. then we will reap what we sow, which means we are held accountable to the laws of the land, But God is merciful and many times people have been pardoned. Read about St. Paul in the Bible, who originaly was Saul of Taursus a wicked man and then He met the Lord! The word Christian means Christ like..and Christ is not Jesus's last name it means the anointed one, with the power of God Almighty. who created all things, so we are to strive to live like Jesus did for the 3 and a half years He was on earth going about doing good.
Many people say they are christians because they are not a Budest, Muslim, Mormon, etc. but no one is a christian until they are born again according to the Bible in John 3
It is difficult to answer your question thoroughly with just a few words. I suggest you pick up a bible and read it and ask God to show you the truth.

Just saying your a christian doesn't make you one. Gods great command is that we love one another. Get a clue. Try reading the Bible, especially the New Testament.

They ARE responsible, and those people who say "those responsible were not Christian"...are simply lying because they do not want to believe that their faith can cause death and destruction.

Do not confuse what someone may do using the name of Jesus Christ with what God would truly have that person doing. Anyone can do evil. That does not reflect upon God, His son, or His word. It reflects upon the person doing the evil, whatever they may be "calling" themselves.
