I am unable to wake up in the mornings, I'm wondering if anyone can shead light on why. I currently think its because i'm in an REM state between 6-8am. I have vivid dreams, and if i'm waken at all during this time i just fall back to sleep. I can't eat breakfast or drink coffee because i take thyroid medicine first thing in the morning and must wait an hour. If i wake up at 3-4am in the morning, i can't fall back to sleep until 5:30am. I typically go to sleep between 10-11pm.

Try this: Do some light exercise, take a warm shower, and drink milk before you go to bed. Do all of those things right before you hit the hay. I always do them and only need 6 hours sleep on average per day because I wake up in a pleasant mood, without the drowsiness.

Try going to bed earlier than you normally do, maybe around 9? Try not to eat late because that keeps your metabolism running and keeps you up. You could also try listening to soft, calming nature music like ocean waves to help you fall asleep faster. In the morning, take a shower to help wake you up, put on some upbeat music, or maybe try doing some stretches.

try going to sleep around 8 or 9. I know this is extremely early but just try it out for a few days and get your body used to the schedule. If nothing else the worst that can happen is you miss some tv :)

Have you Dr. check your cortisol levels and IGF1...low #s on either will cause this problem. I am hypopituitary and have both problems +thyroid. I can't get out of bed before 9 am and at night I am wide awake and can't go to sleep before 10pm. Have pituitary problems been ruled out?

you could always try going to sleep earlier, but most likely you are not a "morning person". find a job that will accomodate your sleep -like a swing shift position. you will be a happier person.
