In conjunction with medical care, you should eat as much of a balanced diet as possible.
Cabs will help you calm down while protein helps you keep your energy up.
Stay away from caffeine and stay hydrated with water or herbal teas.
Good luck.

This is not something you eat or drink and make it better. The depression could be the loss of a loved one or it could be a
chemical in-balance. There are medications for both. There is no shame in the chemical in balance, this is not something you have done, people are born with it and it can be controlled. Please see a good doctor to do blood work this will tell him a lot in knowing how to treat you. I have insomnia at times so I know how you feel. Go to a good Therapist who can help with the depression if the other options do not work for you.
Good Luck, Read a good book. a hot tub and swimming. Another thing my doctor told me is when you lie down at night, Do some breathing exercises, stretch your entire body and hold your breathe then slowly let it out, do this a bout three times, this actually works for me a lot.

I find your avatar ironic (just thought I would mention that).
The clenical answer here would be to increase your protein in your diet and do aerobic daily if possible. Protein helps your muslces and vital organs work properly, and in studies increases brain function. Aerobic activity relases anti-depression hormones and chemicals into your brain.
Also, the aerobic activity should be enough to wear you out and be sleepy. It's a win/win for your body and mind.

There's a book called, " Foods that harm and foods that heal". You should really check it out, they have all kinds suggestion and clinically proven studies. Like for example, I have asthma and it says coffee is good during an asthma attack.

Absolutely no caffeine, as in none in chocolate etc. Cut back on sugars/carbs. Avoid alcohol, it is a depressant.
