The Honeymoon
Legend 1:
In ancient times, many of the first marriages were by capture, not choice. When early man felt it was time to take a bride, he would often carry off an unwilling woman to a secret place where her relatives wouldn't find them. While the moon went through all its phases, (about 30 days) they hid from the searchers and drank a brew made from honey. Hence, we get the word, honeymoon.
Legend 2:
In ancient times, the Teuton people began the practice of the honeymoon. Teuton weddings were only held under the full moon. After the wedding, the bride and groom would drink honey wine for thirty days. Therefore, the period immediately following the wedding became known as the honeymoon. While the name survived, the purpose of the honeymoon changed. After the wedding, newlyweds would leave their family and friends to go and do what newlyweds are supposed to do. Today that purpose survives, only now a vacation is incorporated, usually to a romantic get-away locale.
Legend 3:
Honeymoon - The word first appears in the 16th century. The honey is a reference to the sweetness of a new marriage. And the moon is not a reference to the lunar-based month, but rather a bitter acknowledgment that this sweetness, like a full moon, would quickly fade.
Legend 4.
The term 'honeymoon' comes from the tradition of the bride drinking mead (a brewed, fermented drink made of honey) for one month after the wedding to encourage fertility, and a male child in particular.

I think honey was available earlier than either chocolate (which wasn't in England till the 1800s) or maybe refined sugar.
Wikipedia offers this:
"It has also been said[weasel words] that the origins of this word date back to the times of Babylon. In order to increase the virility and fertility of the newly-weds, the father of the bride would provide his son in law with all the mead (a honey-based drink) he could drink during the first month of the marriage (and therefore "moon"). Given that the English word is only four hundred years old, direct attribution to Babylon is questionable, though often repeated. The custom of drinking mead after a wedding for a month was also a medieval custom, however, and in practice at the time the word first appeared. [citation needed] [original research?]
Other possible explanations of the word honeymoon have to do with the date that weddings traditionally took place. Weddings once commonly took place upon the Summer solstice both for religious reasons earlier on and also for the practical reason that it was the time between the main planting and harvesting of crops. As it was at this time of year that honey was first harvested, it is possible that this is the source.[citation needed] [original research?]" (retrieved 3/1/07).

Putting it simply, it was that charmed period when married love was at first as sweet as honey, but which waned like the moon and in roughly the same period of time.
First appeared in the middle of the 16th Century:
“Honeymoon, a term proverbially applied to such as be new married, which will not fall out at the first, but the one loveth the other at the beginning exceedingly, the likelihood of their exceeding love appearing to assuage, the which time the vulgar people call the honey moon”.

To be with ones honey (addressing the lovable life partner- by the name of material which is a natural & pure source of rich taste that does not detoriate with time!)
for the first time under moon (a natural cool and peaceful eternal object oozing out beauty)
enjoying what nature and God has bestowed on him.
probably if there is no spontaneous love within the couple then it has to be artificially made by chocolate or sugar or jewels whatever it demands!

Honeymoon is in reference to Husband and Wife calling each one "honey" and "moon" is in reference to the night after the wedding. Hence, "Honeymoon".

Honey doesn't get contaminated even after millions of year. At the same time, the taste of the honey is not completely sweet.
Honey is the naturally available one. And it is the basic of reproduction. Because of honey, in the flower, the pollen grains are transformed thru bees, and that might be the reason too.

Because Honey is the only food that doesn't go bad. Wouldn't you want the rest of your marrage (after about the first month [moon] which is GREAT) to continue being great and not go bad?

just simple baby , even all are sweet , honey is sweeter as well as good for health, where as other two r not so good . u may tell sugar is good for health, but i wont agreethat, cos honey cures some diseases(during pregnancy/after child birth) and sugar dose not cure any disease (even it is difficult to cure someone suffering from low sugar)

honey is sweet and naturally produced and it has many medicinal values and it is deliciously sweet. It is the closest to the love juices, produced by a young newly married girl, when properly excited.
