And tired when I get more? By "less" I mean 4 hours. And by "more" I mean 6-7 hours. Is there a reason?

If you are getting older like we all are, your sleeping patterns change.
When we are younger we are growing, and need the rest to do that. So 8 hours is more appropriate.
When we hit our "prime" your body is functioning optimally, it fights off illness better, it process' and metabolizes better, and we ultimately need less sleep.

I never thought I would need less than 8 hours. Now I'm 40 and I do well on 4-6 hours.

You can try to stay in bed longer, but you really don't need more rest. It will make you almost into a depression because your built in alarm clock has gone off.

I think it's your body telling you it's time to be productive & that these are the most active, and best years of your life, let's go play.

If you watch your mom and dad's sleeping habits, whether you like or not, yours will ultimately develop the same way.

It's common.

Listen to your body, it's trying to tell you something.

Your body sets a time every day to wake up as long as you have been doing it at the same time for 30 or more days. So if you get more than what your used to its not normal.average 6-8 more for young adults. A study has shown to much sleep is affiliated with a higher mortality rate than 6-8. I dont advise sleeping under 5hrs for more than 1-2 times a week. You have diff stages of sleep and when you sleep 4 hrs you never get into the REM stage which is most important. Go to wedmd and learn all about this.
