What is the explanation for this "crazy wisdom" among Tibetan and Indian adepts? I don't understand how it can be holy. I understand to some extent why you may want to cast off some social conventions. But how can intoxication and promiscuous sexual activity ever be holy? If nothing else, wouldn't this send the wrong message to people who are not enlightened?

I cant answer but have some more questions
=> If a person's claim to be an "enlightened one" taken seriously?
=> What are the attributes of an elightened person??
=> Are our morals necessarily followed by elightened ones..or they have their own divine morals ?
=> What can be called promiscuious activity ? Sex? drinking? smoking? eating meat? anger? greed ? lust?
=> Have you ever met an enlightened one ? how did you know he is enlightened ? what habits he showed ?

They are NOT 'enlightened being' but they claimed themselves as an 'enlightened' being, to attract the crow and have more disciple, in most cases if you are aware of.
A true enlightened being will not claim that they are enlighten. lndeed, such so call 'enlightened being' will send a message to people, that why we have to be very careful not to fall in their trap.

there are two different types of aluminati!
those that follow satan
and those that have thrones in gods kingdom.
mortal men who drink, do so because it does have medicinal properties, they choose to do drink because it give a balance in the bodies chemicals and against some poisons.
the poisons of satan have been the greatest evil in this generation, and men who do not have the true cure for poison will choose to drink. If it works.

You mean the ones who dont wash and drink their own urine and are pretty much permanently drunk?
If so, I think it has something to do with finding holiness in degrading yourself and subjecting to yourself to the lowest things. I'm not really sure I understand how they think. But then again I only saw a short documentary on them which didnt really explain much.
If not, then I dont know what youre talking about.

Some say having sex is enlightening.
Some say calling a murderous pedophilic liar as prophet is great.
Some say believing in being born a pig for bad behavior is sound.
What is your benchmark? You see, one man's meat is another man's poison. We think sex is wrong, but some think sex is super, but you ask why do they think so? Well, just let them be. If they want sex, just go ahead. If they want to worship a murderous pedophilic liar, go ahead, if they want to think that their neighbor's pig is their great grand father, go ahead.
ITS THEIR LIFE. Just don't go around killing people in the name of your faith and ruining people's lives. That's where the buck must stop.
And that's why islam must be stopped.

Your question was a good one. When you are enlightened, there is a freedom beyond belief, only compared to that of a young child. Rational enlightenment, after all the lets call it proof you are enlightened is the end product.
At this, the listening of the quiet inner voice, achieved by loving yourself totally and others to the point you would die for anyone, the guy living in the dumpster or the Pope, there by being one with Love lies the total, a listening with no rational wisdom, for a unknown purpose, lies the perfect path.
Listening, complete trust, the random events of the past all become purposeful, meaningful, to what end is not important.
