I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2001 after the doctor spent $30,000 of the insurance company's money trying to find out what was the problem. I thought I was dying with a heart attack. I heard a couple of ladies talking about fibro and I ask the Dr. and he said I didn't have that. I told him that I wanted to see a specialist and he said no so I went to my company Dr. and I got a referral to the specialist from him and the specialist said that I did have it and he put me on Tramadol/APAP TABS 37.5/325 1 a day and they have worked wonders. I cant do exercises because I have C.O.P.D. and bone spurs in the knees, but my med really help.

Both are immune problems. I have three kinds of Arthritis and my Fibromyalgia is getting worse. I understood as you get older the Fibro should get better, but not with me. I also was diagnosed in 1991 with Systemic Lupus. All three of these are auto-immune problems. Now I am testing negative for the Lupus.(in Remission) My Fibro is so painful, I have knots in my muscles and my muscels spas-out. My doctor put me on a med. called Zoluff 50 mg 2 times a day, I ask why, he said they had discovered that a chemical in Zoluff helps the Fibro. and he is right. I also have to take muscle relaxers. I also have to take a pain med which I have fought against, but I have to, I can't handle the pain. I don't want to scare you, but I have three sisters with all three of these diseases, for which they use to say it was not genetic. My niece, 30 yrs old, mother of three was being treated for Fibro. for 3-4 years, come to find out it is MS. she is bedridden, occasionally every couple months she may be able to sit-up in the wheel chair, but she has to have help everyday. So take this serious, but don't quit living life, go play ball, you know your limitations. Water Aerobics has made a real difference in me just in the past few days, so try that as well.

My grandma and a second cousin have that. I have read where swimming in warm water helps, but my grandma doesn't want to be seen in public in wet clothes. Arthritis and fibromyalgia are both painful, so you have a double dose of pain and I'm sure your sleep has been drastically reduced as well. With arthritis, it sometimes helps to eliminate salt and sugar. My grandma sticks to a pretty strict diet, which helps somewhat. I was reading about this for a while a year or two ago, and I found a doctor who has determined that women who are at risk for developing fibromyalgia and asthma often have a higher level of antibodies and female "problems" as well. My grandma has terrible allergies to all kinds of things, so drugs don't seem to be a option for her, but there might be something out there for you. The drug I saw on the internet inhibits the production of the antibodies, or something like that.

I come to this category every once in a while to see if anyone is asking about fibro. I was diagnosed with fibro almost 12 years ago. I take Guaifenesin for it. It is not a cure but taken properly it helps a lot with the pain. I no longer have to take prescription pain meds.
To find out about the protocol go to www.guaidoc.com and/or

Also get this book: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalia by Dr. Paul St. Amand.
Arthritis and fibro have many of the same symptoms. You need to find a good Rhuemetologist for a diagnoses.

I have the same I have fibro and arthritis especially in the back. Winters are bad for me. I couldnt even move in the bed when I get in there for more than an hour I would be in so much pain. have you had blood work to test what kind of arthritis you have and make sure its not lupus...The dr gave me skelaxin which is a muscle relaxer and it works so i can sleep at night. I know the feeling of not know which one it is. It can be scary. Of course stress and lack of sleep make it worse. were you also checked for ms..those are the first things they check for if all becomes negative...keep a journel of the types of pain and location and the time of day also mention sleep pattern and weather and foods that you eat all day...go over it with your dr and see if there are patterns that trigger your fibro- if you need support email me...Deb L

I really hate to burst your balloon, but Fibromyalgia is a garbage can diagnosis. Basically the doctor doesn't know what your problem is. Or even if it is real. It is obvious that the patients feel the pain, but there is no physical/physicalogical problem that they can detect. I'm very sorry to tell you this, buy until they find something that they can perceive as the problem, you're out of luck. I do hope that they find a cause soon.

A lot has to do with your other symptoms.

It is also possible that you have more than just fibro.

Can you tell me what tests have been performed on you? How long have you had fibro? Where is the pain located? What meds are you on?

Please email me and I might be able to help you further, fibro can be controlled to a degree but the meds of choice will usually depend on other health conditions.

Prednasone is usually the drug of choice but if you have glaucoma or several other conditions you should steer clear of all steroids.

Most of us with lupus have fibro as well and maybe you need more tests to determine if you have another underlying disease.
