Red meat has a lot more fat that poultry, so yes, it will help you not gain weight like fatty foods do.
Taste wise...turkey has a lot less taste. You need to season it significantly more. It also looses moisture, so make sure you add sauce or something to the ground turkey.

I've eaten ground turkey a few times, and I found that if it's in something like chili, spaghetti sauce, sloppy joes, etc., it's not really that noticeable. You know you're eating ground turkey, but any dish with a lot of flavor/spices will sort of mask the taste of the turkey. I ate a turkey burger once and no amount of ketchup, pickles etc. that I put on it helped. LOL
Ground turkey *can be* very lean. You have to watch buying it though. Some places use ground dark meat which contains significantly more fat than ground breast/white meat. I saw some at the grocery the other night, made by Perdue. It was listed as 85/15. That's as much fat as ground chuck!! If you want lean, make sure to ask the butcher, or buy a breast and grind it yourself.

Taste wise it is a big switch. Ground turkey has less taste and the taste it does have isnt a good one. i have been trying to lose weight by eating less red meat so i switched to mainly just chicken.By buying lean beef is pretty much the same as ground turkey fat wise.

it's quite easy actually
Ground beef started to taste funny to me about 15 years ago and I started using ground turkey instead. You can taste the difference in a good way. Any lean protein source will help you lose weight. If you stick with ground beef, use the super lean with only 3-7% fat.

Actually, extra lean ground beef has less fat and less cholesteral then ground turkey! Who knew, right? Anyway, if you're wanting to change over, try blending the two for a while in your recipes. Then gradually convert to just the turkey.

The ground turkey is lacking in flavor and frequently has little bone slivers in it. I've used it for stuff like Hamburger Helper or spaghetti with no problems. For something like hamburgers, you're going to want to season them up.
