The mustang will have power with any tranny in it.I have a 92 GT 5-speed and a 2000 GT 5-speed.Truthfully i'm getting sick and tired of shifting all the time especially since i'm running 4.10 gears in both of them.If you are looking for more comfort than power i would go with the automatic. If you plan on racing at a track or just doing some road racing,an automatic is easier to launch off a line with and be more consistent with.It takes a special kind of person to know how to run a manual shift consistently. If all you want is power and you plan on driving it like you stole it and your pretty good at slammin gears, get the 5-speed.Like i said before a Mustang Gt will always have power regardless of what tranny you have.I still wished i would have at least bought one automatic instead of 2 stick shifts!! Have fun!!

If everything is ideal, the 5 speed may be faster, but in the real world, I'd bet on the automatic. The 5 speed only shifts as fast as the driver, theres a good chance that he won't be in the right gear. If its from a standing start, the driver is liable to stall it or spin the tires without really moving. The automatic is a sure thing and the Mustang GT has enough power that you can afford to lose a little and still come out ahead.

I wouldn't worry about it. The GT has enough power either way. I had 2001 GT convert and it was an auto and I always had enough power. Anymore the auto and the shift usually run just a few tenths different in the quarter.

acid dude , it doesnt really matter. all v8 stangs are fast for driving everyday I would take an automatic for racing I'd take a 5 speed. dont forget that there is alot of trans mfgs that make upgrades for the automatics ( TCI, ART CARR) The auto does kill 5 -10 hp over a 5 speed but you never miss a gear with an automatic.

You are talking about Mustang GT so it is a very powerful car it must be more than or equal to 400 horse power as I remember. So no matter you have a automatic or manual gearbox you will have a fast vehicle but I always prefer manual to enjoy the car . Cause automatic gearbox is just like a toy car . You are doing anything just lead the car by steering wheel .

You'll lose power with an auto, but depending on your driving ability you may not lose speed. And remember, an '04 doesn't have the 300 horses to begin with, its more like 260, so don't expect the same speed as a new one.

actually the auto will slow the car down quite a bit as it loses about 10% more power through the trans than a manual
in regards to they guy who answered below me the GT's only have 300 hp not the 400 like you said
and maybe the guy is getting the slow gt with only 260 hp
gotta make sure you got the right engine

AUTOMATICS ARE NOT THE SAME AS THEY USE TO BE. THE ONE TEST THEY DID HAVE WITH AN AUTO IN IT OUT RAN THE STICK THEY HAD TESTED. FOR EVERYDAY DRIVING AUTO IS GREAT ESPECIALLY IF ITS A GOOD ONE. I HAVE A SALEEN SUPERCHARGED MUSTANG WITH AUTO AND I CAN TELL YOU ITS GREAT. I HAVE HAD FOUR ACURAS GS-R AND RSX TYPE S, I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THE SHIFTING. FOR THE AVERAGE DRIVER THE AUTO WILL BE FASTER IT DOESN'T KILL AS MUCH POWER AS PEOPLE SAY.

dont get an automatic!!! why would you buy a sports car and get it an auto?! it definitely kills the power. and you don't get the same acceleration as you would from a stick...god it annoys me when i see people with automatic muscle cars...you might as well get a friggin van
