I doubt that microsoft will give up on vista so quickly. They are still putting out updates for windows 2000 and they have more than 3 newer operating systems now. But I wouldn't spend the extra money to buy and upgrade to vista quite yet. Let microsoft work out the bugs and let other companies update their drivers before you fork out the money.

Thanks,
Charlie

I am reading your article now
wait a minute

Microsoft said today said it would limit support for three versions of the Windows Vista operating system, including its most expensive, to five years rather than the usual 10 years.

It says above
If you give to much money to buy a Vista I think it does not matter too much between 10 year or 5 year support cause 5 year support is enough in my opinion
After 5 years there would probably a new windows OS and the old one will be old-fashioned and can not give the requirements you want from a software in the future
But I advise you to use linux it is free and you can upgrade many linux versions freely and it is possible to find many programs for linux OS
If you only want to use Vista then you should but it cause you have no choice but do not give 499 dollars it is more expensive I would buy the cheapest version of it .

Your guess is as good as mine. Windows2000 is supported until 2010 and XP around 2012 maybe longer, I really have not checked. The normal support life with Microsoft is 10 years. IF, my customers go Vista, I may have to buy it, but, only because of Customer Support. I hoping to slide on buying Vista. It really has not impressed me yet, but, it still new.
I did not read all of the Article but seen it only certain versions that get cut to 5 years. So, if, you want Visa be sure you get a version that will be supported for 10 years. I figure by the time 2000 and XP lose support there be something besides Vista or it at least be more stabilized. This what I tell my customers and they feel it good advice. I still supporting a few customers with Windows 3.11. :-D

Well from the article it shows it will only be certain versions of it. The rest will be fine. Also, as far as I know, this is supposed to be the final version of windows. It's built in layers. Where each layer can be upgraded independently from the others and not have to replace the whole system.
