I give money to beggars at the train station sometimes, although I prefer when they sell the homeless' news paper, that is somewhat of a first step to getting out of there.
What they do with their money doesn't concern me, I'll either give it to them or I won't, after that it's theirs so they can use it any way they like. However it does annoy me when they try to beg for a specific purpose which I know is a lie; those dudes that have 'lost their wallet' and need a ticket home don't get anything from me. But if they just ask for some spare change then it's up to me to give it or not; after that it's theirs and no longer mine so I have no say in how they spend it.
I've never given money at traffic signals, I don't drive now but even when I did own a car I never did. I keep my attention on the driving, it's very annoying when the signal changes and people are still digging in their purse, and also they have to come up to your car so when the signal changes they're out in the road! Always considered this a pretty dangerous practice that I won't encourage, malls/bus stops/train stations/etc okay, but not out in the road.

I have stopped just giving $$. Once I exited the wrong exit off a freeway and I saw a man with a sign begging for $$. I got back on the freeway exited one exit later and saw another man with the exact same sign with the exact same wording on it . Another time I gave $$ to a man begging and the next day I saw him in a nice suit comming out of a nice apt building that I discovered later that he lived there, and a few days later I saw the same guy at the local 7/11 with a big wad of 20's. I still see him dressed up in bum clothes outside of CVS, and I mentioned to the manager that he is not really homeless and that he is cheating their customers and they just said that they cannot do anything about him except to advise people not to give $$. I have also given $ to someone saying that they were starving only to see them buying booze 10min later. I hate the fact that these people have are cheating people for their hard earned $. I know that there are many legitamate homeless people, but I would rather give my $$ either to a shelter or go and buy the food to give to the homeless person, which I have done many times. When I go to a nice restaurant, if there are any left overs that are worth eating I will box it up and give it to someone on the street on my way home. Or while in the store I will pick up a sandwich for the person, but giving $, I stopped doing.

I agree,we should not encourage begging or the expectation of handouts in any way, anywhere. This form of kerbside begging to a captive audience, appears to be a follow on from the well practiced art of charity tin bangers and windscreen cleaners.
It can create a drivers loss of attention to the traffic light changes and the flow on movement of traffic.
These behaviours do a lot to create road congestion, add to hazard potential as well as not helping those in the least bit prone to road rage.
Even many usually calm capable drivers, find it hard maintain their cool after the 6th request for money or a screen clean in as many stops for the light changes.
Traffic distraction and obstruction in this manner, should be a chargeable offence that is actively pursued.
There are welfare agencies with free call lines that are there solely to assist the legitimate needy.

We should stop giving money to the men or women that seem to be homeless and instead take them to a homeless shelter. I could easily seem homeless to earn easy money. If they ask you for money, tell them you don't have some. A homeless person that really wants help will go to a homeless shelter.

It is really necessary not to give alms at traffic signals. It is dangerous and causes a nuisance to the pedestrians and the motor drivers.

In some countries it is a common practise to rent children to beg for the adults. I'm not kidding.
Its really your choice.
I asked a street person for directions while in Seattle, he was a real gentleman and helped me. He asked for nothing, but I gave to him money. In my mind, he earned it. What he did with it is none of my business.

I think you are wrong. it is people who give that make them do this,my advise is instead of giving them it is better to put into your child savings or donate to a proper charity organisation.
we should stop this so no beggars will want to beg
