kmsbean, what exactly is your problem with us Baptist? John the Baptist was at the very least one of the very first Christians and the bible states he was the greatest to walk on the earth save one, Jesus.

Steve, good point if you only have a "head' knowledge and not a "heart" knowledge of Jesus it does you no good.

Miss Momma Ive done the reaserch and I have to tend to agree with you. John the Baptist was the first Baptist and pre-dates even the Catholic church so this would make us not part of the reformation at all. Wow you learn someting new every day.

Backbiting? I pray that you're overstating things a bit there, brother.

Relying on God's promises as the Holy Spirit has enabled me, I'd say yes, that all those who sincerely accept Christ's amazing gift will give evidence of their salvation while still on earth, and will be among the joyful throng in Heaven. On the other hand, I know some people who believe that salvation can be lost or revoked somehow (I'm not too clear on the details). So, they might see it a little differently, which goes right back to your original point.

Yes, Catholics and protestants who believe in Jesus go to heaven, and before anyone else gets mad,let me say this. I believe that Jesus died for the sins of all. People can serve Jesus without even knowing it. (Matthew 25: 31-46). So I think the door is open to Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, whoever. If protestants and Catholics Don't get it right all the time, and God loves them anyway, the same goes for all. I believe only the wicked and evil go to hell, not people who have a different religion than mine.

Wow, that peace and understanding lasted almost 3 posts. I am a fundamentalist, but my research is as a catholic university's seminary. Theological debating is a great way to strenght one's faith and examine the truths of doctrine. The fine line is in respect and tolerence. As much as I joke with Catholics about doctrine, its all in love, I have great respect and love for all Christians denominations-(except Baptists.)

It depends on what you mean by "accept Jesus as Savior." I believe that in order to be a Christian, one must trust whole-heartednly in Jesus. This means that one cannot depend in any part on himself for his salvation. And so if "accepting Jesus as Savior" in someone's mind, includes doing something to be saved, then such a person is unfortunately depending in some measure upon his or her own work or merit. But if one is trusting whole-heartedly on Jesus, understanding that anything he has done in his salvation is the result of what God has done in him, then he is on the right track.

I agree. If you accept Jesus as your Savior, whether Protestant or Catholic, you are going to live eternally in Heaven. Some Catholics believe that the virgin Mary saves them. There's a fine line.

That is not how it works... you state only one facet of what is involved in coming to God as He prescribes... and only those who come to God in The Way He prescribes will receive His free gift of Salvation. Those become part of The Body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. These are the ones of The True Christian Faith. Only those of The Church will enter heaven.

those of the Roman Catholic are forbidden to teach or hear The Truth of The Salvation Message.

What is it going to take to make you see the folly of being a believer?
Can you not see that which is most likely?
Choose between an imaginary and conveniently invisible and totally silent 'being' supposedly all-seeing and all-powerful but who does absolutely nothing to influence anything at all anywhere anytime ... or ... it does not exist save in the minds of the indoctrinated.
Choose.

Accepting Jesus doesn't necessarily obtain salvation in my opinion and in my churches but I agree it's the way to salvation. That was never the problem between us though, was it?
