In to-days socielty, young single unemployed girls are getting pregnant and expect the state to provide for them.
If these people are stupid enough to get pregnant without being married or enough money to support themselves and the child, should the state refuse to support them and the child be adopted?

The state shouldnt refuse to support them. People always moan about paying tax and it going to other people blah blah blah, sometimes people cant help the situations they are in. I pity the people who have to live on the state more than anything and hopefully the majority of them will get a job eventually. I have been a single parent working full time and paying my taxes but i have nothing against those that dont work - some are not as lucky as others it doesn't mean they should have there kids taken away.
I do realise that sometimes it is laziness and it is frustrating.
You never know when you will be the one to need help.

What you're suggesting is a breach of basic liberties. In this country people are free to choose their lives. I agree that the state can refuse to support them.... but their child be adopted out without their consent?? No way. Personally, as a woman who had her first child at 18, became a tax accountant, and am now pursuing my dream of working on cars, young mothers CAN make it if they're given the right tools. Yes tools... they need to know that there are consequences. I spent a lot of time at home with my daughter. My young husband and I missed out on parties and other "fun" things that our friends were doing. Lots of people thought we were crazy for getting married and keeping her and not giving her up for adoption. But I wouldn't change a thing. My daughter is wonderful, intelligent, and is about to start college. I'm still married to my husband of 19 years. I know we're not a typical story. But that's only because we were given the tools to success. My father owned an accounting firm. He let me bring my daughter to work with me, and taught me the job and sent me to classes. I believe if we had better and more affordable child care, and if we had good job training programs those same young single mothers would have the tools that would allow them to be successful. Why should someone pay every day for the rest of their lives for a single mistake? Why can't they have a second chance?
It all comes down to the give a man a fish, or teach a man to fish philosophy.
Stop being bitter and cruel, and find a peaceful solution.

I think it's wrong for people to judge young mothers. Most young, single mothers did not plan to get pregnant. I'm sure a lot of teens and adults when they were teens had sex. They just got lucky. And not everyone has unprotected sex. Accidents do happen.

No one should have the right to take a child away from it's mother. Teens should be more responsible but remember, we were all that age at one time.

I work and support my daughter as well as attending school. I'm a 16 year old mother and I happen to be pregnant again. I'm supporting both myself and my daughter very well without the governments help.

You should really stop and think twice about what you're saying because not everyone is the way you describe and it's quite offensive.

ok... for a start most young girls that fall pregnant dont plan to be a mum so soon!

For alot of them, its a HUGE shock..
And remember it takes two to tango. the guy shouldnt have put it up there unprotected if he wasnt prepared to deal with the consequences!

Alot of young woman DONT rely on the goverment for money aswell... I never did. I was delevering pizza's after my mum got home for ages when my son was born (i had him at 16).

Then I went back to school, at which time yes i was getting money from the goverment to support us and help me through school, but only because I couldnt continue the job, aswell as school and still have enough time for my son..

I think you need to watch what you say, and dont genralise everyone, just because some do it!
Not all people are the same.

i could turn around and say
"Why are people that are married, have children and are not low-income so STUCK UP?"

Most arent, but there are some.. is it fair for me to say that? No... so i think your question was quiet harsh. You should look at the whole picture before you judge.

In todays society a lot of people start families without being married. I am 24 and a single mother of a beautiful 3 1/2 month old baby girl. I was with her father for about a month and a half before I got pregnant and he wanted me to get an abortion. I myself am pro choice, but I felt no reason to abort my baby. Yes, I am getting help from the state, but I am doing as much as I can and I am doing a DAMN GOOD JOB AT IT!!!

The problem you create with the solution you pose is one of emotional frailty. Do you want to create depression? Whether some people are financially prepared or ready to be a parent, the trap you create if you take the child away from the biological parent is a scar on the parent that could lead to violence against society by postal like behavior. The solution should come BEFORE they get pregnant, not after.

Education is more effective than punishment in any case, so I say no. Being a single parent is hard, and punishment enough. Kids should be taught from an early age that if they have children early in life, that their chances of going to college, earning higher wages, improved social lives, etc are all diminished because they have to spend their youth looking after their kids.

We need more reality in schools and less crap, that is the real problem. Stop being soft on your kids, and wake them up to the consequences of their actions!!!

Maybe kids can take a madatory all-day class in 6th grade (or whenever "before puberty" is) where they do nothing but take care of a crying, diaper-dirtying baby while staying in the same room, and see if they like that instead of learning math, science, english, playing games with their friends and eating at the cafeteria?

I think the state should hunt down the father and make him support the child. He's just as stupid . . .
