Most likely i'd say that you've destoyed the hair shaft a bit so now it doesn't lie flat and it's coarse now, so that's why it doesn't feel silky anymore. Unfortunately that is irreversible for the hair that's already come out of your scalp. As you grow your hair the new hair should be as soft and smooth as it was before. The only thing you can do for the hair that you currently have is to use topical ointments to maintain moisture levels and to make the folicles lie a lil flatter when the ointments/oils are coating them. I guess either your colouring was too strong and totally unsuitable for the type of hair you have ( check what type you have, eg fine) or you had virgin hair and it reacted badly. Eitherway, you need to remember that not all hair dyes are created equal. Read the ingredients and what type of hair certain ones are specific for and what countries they come from. For example, if you have fine Caucasian hair, chances are that you should never touch anything that comes out of Asian countries - the reason? Generally those of Asian decent have course hair, and more than likely black hair, both of these elements means that the hair dye has to be a hell of a lot stronger and chemically infused to make a difference to the hair shaft. Btw, for the random comment made by someone earlier - she is actually spelling the word colour correctly. I'm assuming you were from America. Don't assume everyone spells with the old Elisabethan version of English from which American english derived. It's annoying.

Same here - Nothing seemed to have a permanent result, so about 6 months ago, I stopped colouring my hair and decided to just grow it out. I did not want my hair short, so everytime it grows a little, I cut a little. The hair that is growing now is so healthy, shiny and extremely easy to manage, I cannot believe I used to colour it! I've almost got a full head of healthy hair and it's wonderful - I think the only permanent result, like I say, is to just grow it out... x good luck

If you plan on continuing dying your hair, I would recommend you concider using good quality products. (Ulta) sometimes has specials going on on liter shampoos and conditioners and even though they are pricey, they last a long time. My favorite for dry damaged hair is (BACK TO BASICS Coconut/Mango). It smells really good and both, the conditioner and the shampoo are very concentrated. I have long hair and they last about 6-8 moths. I also recommend (REDKEN ANTI-SNAP Leave in treatment). It comes in a blue bottle of about 8 oz. for about $15. You only need a little of this and it smells good. This product contains proteins and vitamins. Believe me, these products work! I've been dying my hair since I was 16 (now 25), have had every color you can think of from black to blonde and highlights, (everything goes when you have fair skin), and I still get really nice compliments on my hair. Good luck!!!

I had the same problem, and i tried so many products that it made it even worse! So maybe if you're willing to, you should cut some hair off and to make your hair healthy again try Pantene Pro-V Shampoo and Conditioner Daily Moisture Renewal it'll help moisturize dry and damaged hair and it'll help repair the damage. But make sure you stop dying your hair for a while! or else your hair can become untreatably fried.

Well, you could pull a Britney. Or not.
I suggest stopping all use of chemical hair products. Go to Trader Joes or a health foods store and buy shampoo without chemicals. Use lots of conditioner to replenish shine too. Dont use anything other than shampoo, conditioner, and if you must, some type of de-frizzer or something of the sort. Limit the # of products.

i had that same problem what you do is put lots lots of conditioner in your hair while showering let it set for 2 minutes then add water but not to wash it out. the use a brush and brush it so it is detangled then rinse but not completely leave a little conditioner in so that when you get out of the shower... your hair looks wet and silky because the condtioner is in it

Coloring your hair damages the hair shaft. The only way to fix that is to let the color grow out.

get a trim every month to let it grow faster and keep the tips healthy.
also, get good shampoo that goes with the pH of your hair. or those shampoos for colored hair.
and don't color your hair anymore! take care of it! if you don't have to......then just don't do anything with your hair after showering! just air dry!
the girl that cut my hair also told me this...although i don't practice it.... she told me i shouldnt wash my hair everyday. you should wash every two days or every other day. she says washing your hair every day dries it.
that's all i gotta say! gluck wit ur hairrr!!! :D
