Go to this site: http://www.videohelp.com

Visit the "tools" section and download "VirtualDub Mpg2" and "Razorlame".

Install these two programmes. They are free BTW.

Load your Mpg1 video into "VirtualDub" and under the "files" tab you will see a selection "Save WAV". Click on that and follow the cues. The audio portion of your video will be saved as a WAV file with a name of your choosing.

Now open "Razorlame". You may want to tweak this programme some to get the audio quality you want. It has presets that are pretty all inclusive. By clicking on the "Lame" icon (hammer and wrench) you can select the quality settings. I always select the "Studio VBR" one. Then load your WAV file into "Razorlame" by clicking the "add" button. Then click "encode" and a few seconds later you will have a MP3 file of your WAV file ready for your use.

The one way I know how is through programs like Acid, After Effects or Premier. Just import the video, highlight the area you want and export as an mp3.
