You can tile over existing tile, but you have to install a membrane over it first. AFM, anti fractures membrane, goes on with a thick black glue. It will allow you tore tile over the old with great results. Do not try to go straight over existing tile with just mastic or thin set, it will not hold and you will just waste your time and money. You can get the membrane at most tile retail or whole sale stores, but not usually at Lowes or Home Depot.

This is not the thing to do,it will be easier but it will cracked also. You will need to find the reason the old tile cracked first solve that problem then take the old up or install tile board first then the new tile, remember that if you chose a easy way with some things like tile you ll regret it later and pay even more in the long run.

no, that cannot be done. Stop and think about it, if you're current tile has cracks in, what makes you think when you put down the new tile, even if it is bigger, that you won't have the same problems. Unfortunately, the only way to do it correctly is to remove the old tile, find out why it cracked in the first place, then make sure you will be able to put down tile. You may have something as simple as tile that didn't get set right or uneven foundation. Hope this helped.

NO WAY! The old cracked tile will only cause the new tile to crack. Even if you use wonderboard the tile will crack. Ceramic tile needs a solid flat stable surface that will not move or become weak. This insures that the ceramic tile will become stable and not crack. You may have had a weak floor in the first place and this could have been the reason why you tile cracked in the first place. Wonderboard is a cement type floor coverning that will not crack. It's like putting new cement down over a wood panel or wood surface. You can but if at any home improvement store

You can put a new tile on top of an old tile. I presume you are doing the whole wall and not just one individual tile. Roughen the ceramic up a bit with a heavy duty sanding disc on a drill or angle grinder, recess the existing grouting between the old tiles with a thin stone disc on thye drill, then just stick them on as normal. The fact that they will be larger means that the tile cement will settle into the old grouting increasing the grip. They will bond as well as they would to a wall.

Absolutely not. A tile floor is only as good as its foundation. Your grout will crack if you do not have a good base underneath. You have to remove the old first.
