I recently upgraded to VIsta from XP and hate it. I have both my XP recovery disk and an XP installation disk but when i try to run them in vista it says they're not compatable. Is there a way to run them from booting? Or, should i format my system then try to install? How would I do that?

put the xp disc in the drive and switch off, then reboot and it should boot off the disc, it will say press any key to boot from cd. if it doesnt offer to boot from cd check the bios for boot sequence and make sure cd rom is first, enter bios by tapping del immediately when you boot up

Once you go Vista there's no looking back, baby!

But to answer your question... yes you're going to have to format your hard-drive and start anew.

First thing you're going to want to do is go to the manufacturer's site of your computer and make sure that you get the driver for your video card, sound card, and network card. Once you have that store them on some sort of removable media like a flash drive or a CD along with any other files you're not quite ready to part with.

When you're ready, restart your computer with the CD in your CD-ROM drive. When BIOS is starting up hit the button to enter the boot menu (on a dell it's F12) Choose to boot from the CD-Drive and follow the directions to install XP.

When you're done with all of that install the drivers that are missing. And you're back to normal!

ok, you have to boot from cd. just restart your computer and have the xp cd in the cdrom. if your system is set to boot from the cd. click on any key when it asks you to. if not setup to boot from the cd first. you need to go to the bios and enable it. once in the xp setup choose the location where you have the windows vista and delete and format it. after that follow the instructions when it's installing windows xp.

Restart your machine and go to bios (keep pressing del or f2---generally this will take you to bios). Then when you are in the bios set your cd rom(or dvd drive whatever you have) as primary booting device.....put your bootable xp cd in the cd rom then save and exit from the bios.........the system will restart again and ask you if you want to boot from cd rom ............now boot your system from cd rom and format the c drive with option available there....better to choose NTFS file system....and then install the xp...first it will copy required details and then the machine will reboot again.......this time don't reboot it from your cd rom .....reboot it from your machines hard disk it self....now relax and wait until xp installation is complete.
