well as depression is a decline on a persons mental state, I would say 95% of the time it will affect someones confidence.

many suffers become withdrawn and don't feel like getting up in the morning. Some may lose their will to do things, and don't want to dress, apply make-up, or do their hair and generally self-neglect. Speaking from personal experience, I only went out when i needed to. I lost my tan, had roots had lost weight so my clothes hung off me. The days I did feel a little positive didn't last long because I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. Its a horrible circle that is hard to break.
My confidence certainly was lowered because I didn't feel good about myself.

Yes and no and I will tell you why based on 15 years of hypothyroidism and clinical depression. Depression is not just based on moods, it can be a chemical imbalance and when that happens, you need a TSH test, no pain involved. I do get loss of esteem when I have really bad days and there are worse ones and very good ones, oddly enough it balances out in tandem with the thyroid. If you do feel more depressed lately than usual, I would strongly advise seeing your family doctor. Good luck.

YES,DEPRESSION DOES MAKE YOU FEEL LESS CONFIDENT.I HAVE SUFFERED FROM ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION FOR THE LAST 4YEARS ON & OFF.BUT AT THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY THIS YEAR,IT CAME ON AGAIN, IN WHICH THIS TIME I WAS AT THE END OF MY TETHER,I COULDN'T COPE,WHICH WAS NO SURPRISE TO ME REALLY.WHEN I HAVE HAD IT IN THE PAST THOUGH I NOTICED THAT IF I DIDN'T GET ENOUGH SLEEP THATS WHEN IT CAME ON!!SO I DID MY OWN RESEARCH WITH THE HELP OF MY HUSBAND,BLESS HIM,HE'S GONE THROUGH HELL.I KEPT TELLING MY FRIENDS,THERE IS SOMETHING MORE WRONG WITH ME THAN WHAT I THOUGHT WAS ANXIETY & DEPRESSION,I GOT AS MUCH SLEEP AS I COULD TO CATCH UP WITH THE SLEEP I HAD LOST OVER THE XMAS PERIOD,RUNNING A BUSINESS, HAVING 2 KIDS,COPING WITH THE HOUSEWORK AS WELL,ETC.SO WHEN I FINALLY GAVE IN AND WENT TO MY GP,HE DID BLOOD TESTS TO TRY TO FIND THE CAUSE OF IT,WHATEVER IT WAS.THE RESULTS CAME BACK NEGATIVE!! SO I BOUGHT SOME FSH TESTS OFF THE INTERNET TO TEST FOR HORMONAL LEVELS,AND NOT TO MY SURPRISE,THEY WHERE POSSITIVE. I FOUND OUT I AM GOING THROUGH MENOPAUSE.I AM NOW ON HRT.I STILL HAVE NO CONFIDENCE,I HAVE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS STILL,AND MY MIND DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE,BUT HOPEFULLY,IVE BEEN TOLD I WILL EVENTUALLY GET BACK TO MY USUAL SELF GIVEN TIME ON THE TABLETS.I HOPE I HAVE MADE SOME SENSE TO YOU.HOPE YOU GET BETTER SOON.GOOD LUCK

Yeah, when your going through it it deffinately does, you beat yourself up because you can't believe you have got to that stage..even if it's not you feel so pathetic, worthless and low, that yes your confidence goes down with it.

However, perhaps when/if you have come out the otehr side, you feel good that you have beaten this illness and feel stronger for it and perhaps that raises peoples confidence too...I at least hope that's the case

Depression makes people feel worthless, and that life itself is worthless. It pulls the rug right out from under you. You have no feeling of control because nothing seems to matter. Most of the struggle back from depression is to gain confidence in yourself and the world.

yes... when people get depression it changes they way you perceive yourself, others and situations... a lot of situations seem a lot more daunting than they need to be then you blame yourself because something is not working properly inside your brain... then it gets into a vicious cycle and needs help... medication.. counselling..

Because when you're depressed you are unhappy and lack self esteem because of that. I have derpession and it is hard for me to be confident because of that.

yes of course it does - lack of self esteem and unhappiness do not help you to go out and embrace life
