Any caffeine related beverages are no good. You will crash and burn. Your best bet is to eat a good breakfast in the morning and take a multivitamin as well. Excersizing after school can increase your reactiveness during the day as well as into the morning.

Good Luck!

Interesting... This sounds just like what I do during virtually every one of my classes (except PE)! It really is an annoying problem. One minute you're trying to read about why Johnny crossed the road, and then the next you find yourself trying to graph the squared root of "crossed the road"! Basically, your mind starts to wander as you doze off, and then you might drool and make sudden, jerky movements when waking up, etc.. yeah, it really sucks. But here's how i learned to deal with it:

1. do NOT take anything with caffeine. Well, a soda now and then is okay (though really high in sugar), but i mean don't take caffeine to solve this problem, cause that's like taking opium to ease a scrape you got when you tripped the other day (don't take drugs to solve your problems, i mean. but hey, if it's for a bit of relax time, go for it. ;) )

2. Get more sleep: yeah, i know it's tough, what with myspace and that person from that place calling on the phone and all the homework.. but try. really, i doubt you'll do much about this part (I wouldn't, either; i'm too lazy to do stuff about anything)

3. Most likely it's happening because your class is boring. I mean, let's face it: SCHOOL IS BORING (not every class, but in general the teachers are just not fun enough). So anything that's just plain boring would put anyone to sleep. Meaning you have to make it fun somehow! (sing a song, talk to a friend, confess your love to someone and then say, "i was just kidding. geez...", pay the teacher to announce "POP QUIZ", though that last one just kinda makes you more worried than entertained...)

Remember, it all just happens because the class is boring, you're probably a bit sleep deprived, and our generation is just plain lazy nowadays (i literally sleep through half of my classes). You can't really do much about it when it's happening. The lethargy is normal. But probably the best solution to this problem is to simply get more sleep. I think that's the answer we all know but don't really like hearing. If you want the non-natural and unhealthy solution that most people DO like hearing, though (i think), then here it is: take drugs (caffeine, in soda or coffee, i mean)

i think coffee is great, but only in moderation. For some people it can get kinda addicting. I started my coffee in highschool and couldn't get through uni without it, but I got good grades cuz I was always paying attention.

People have these highs and lows in the day. At about 4pm, I'm ready to drop dead, so I have an afternoon coffee. If I ever had classes at 4pm without coffee, I'd have NEVER made it through the class. lol.

Also, after finishing the coffee, I used to doodle on the cups. I ended up with a whole coffee cup art collection. I found that drawing stuff on cups didn't take any brain power but it gave me enough to focus on that my thoughts didn't wander or I didn't nod off to sleep. You don't need to look at the teacher, you only need to listen to them.

When I get tired in class and feel like I'm about to drift off, I start to take notes like crazy. Not only does the kinetic motion keep me awake, but I retain more information and can look back on them to remember what the prof. was talking about if I wasn't "all there" mentally at the time.

hullo
depression can cause such a thing,or you get bored from the school and lessons so your unconscious try to defend in this way, still one should not over rule narcolepsy which is an irresistible attacks of sleep spells during the day.
anyhow there is no harm in seeing a psychiatrist ,or at least the school nurse.

I'm in college and i like to take a pop with me to class but in my classes i also have to sit through 2 hours of lecture so it is easy to get restless. Are you eating well. make sure you eat a good breakfast with some whole grains. same for lunch. eat some healthy snacks between classes. Are you getting enough sleep at night?

shop ingesting water, and consume an stunning style of grain products. i think of that your so drained because of the fact of mountaineering that mountain (good interest btw=) on each and every occasion i bypass on a airplane for 9 hours (from Canada to Poland) i'm fairly drained fro 3 days. If this is going on lots longer, i think of you're able to see a doctor just to make confident each and every thing is high-quality. good success!

A question for you! How much sleep a night do you get??? Possibly not enough.

Now, if you are getting 8 hours or so and still have this problem, it might be time to discuss this with your doctor. It could be a sleep disorder.

I heard you take hydrogen peroxide (you can find a bottle in the first aid section of a pharmacy) and you rub some of it on your arms and supposedly it gives you oxygen and wakes you up. My college nutrition professor told me that, but I keep forgetting to try it.
