No, you don't have to. You can keep your maiden name if you'd like. At one time is was expected that you do this but times have changed. We women a are lot more liberated these days. The childs name is really up to you and husband or the babys father. It is what you'd like to do. there is no right way.only your own way

No. I kept my maiden name after I got married. My husband said that if I loved him then I would change my name. I told him that it has nothing to do with love. I am proud of my family name! It is also possible in the US that the man can change his name to his wife's name. When I asked him if he would change his name to mine he thought I was crazy! Why would he want to change his family name?!!! I then told him that if he loved me he would. Nothing else needed to be said. He carries his family name, I carry mine and we've been together over 20 years. If we were able to have children I would give the child both family names.

I the USA it is a choice. The woman can keep her maiden name or take her husbands last name which is what most women do. It is totally up to the individual.

No american women don't have to use their husbands last name when they get married...... It has normally been a "tradition" for women to use there husbands last name...... as a union of the two....... of course now that our society has become more sex based and more and more people become unfaithful.... especially our American women....... Women here have been using there own name more now after marriage because when they go out on the town they don't want people to know they are married........ making it easier for them to cheat....... I think that's why you see more men going for women from other countries...... American women have no hearts or souls......

Truthfully, despite the first 4 answers, it is the common custom, that the bride change her last name when married, almost all "american" women do. Some women use a dual last name. whatever, i like women.

No. Some women also choose to use both last names, or just use their maiden name.

American ladies can use either name they want. In fact they can legally change their name to just about anything they want.
