You should have prepared for the birth of the pups better by building a whelping box.

I can't believe you're letting 4 week old pups and their mom sit in the rain in a cardboard box. Very irresponsible.

Bring the poor guys in, at least give them space in a garage with a heat lamp.

You realize that providing adequate shelter is required by law don't you. What you are doing is illegal, and should someone see it you could have your dogs taken away and be fined for neglect.

Please get you female spayed asap. What you did with this litter was very irresponsible, and frankly you shouldn't be allowed to breed your dog until you have done more research and are willing to take better care of mom and pups.

I have several suggestions.

If you have access to some empty plastic 55 gallon drums, they are great dog houses. Cut a hole in the side and file it smooth and then put rocks or blocks of wood in front and behind to keep it from rolling.

Buy concrete blocks and plywood. Stack the blocks up as high as u want the house, put the plywood on top and add another block on each corner to hold the plywood down. Build it up against your house or garage and that will protect them from 3 sides.

Depending upon how big your mother and puppies are, you could buy a storage tote from Walmart, use bungie cords or wire to wrap around it so the top doesn't come off, cut a hole in the end and you have an instant dog house. My friend has a kennel and she uses them all the time.

You can purchase outdoor, all-weather dog houses made from plastic at almost any pet store. Look for the Dogloo style. They even make nice insert mats for them.

That said, if you don't have the money to purchase adequate shelter for these puppies, you may need to rethink keeping these pups and their mother. They are too little to be outside left to the elements and really need adequate shelter to protect them from wet, wind, and other weather conditions.

If you cannot provide that, please contact a rescue or humane society to come and get them. They have a better chance for survival and finding loving homes if they can be cared for properly.

Just about every mistake in the book has been made by these back yard breeders. About the only mistake left to make is to neglect to take the mother and puppies to the vet...and I guess it's a given that they won't see a vet. I imagine the mother, if she does survive will not get the proper nutrition a nursing bit*ch needs. God help this mother and her puppies because her human owners won't do a thing to help them. My disgust at this whole situation defies words.

They sell puppy play yards at the pet store. Cover with ply wood but leave enough space for mom to jump in and out. If you have them in grass try tomato stakes and chicken wire to make your own playpen.

Depending on the size of the dog, you could get a giant dog house. Maybe for like mastiffs or something. But better yet...
KEEP THEM INSIDE! THEY COULD GET FLEAS AND WORMS AND STUFF! ITS NOT SAFE TO KEEP THEM IN A BOX IN THE RAIN!!!!

Get two of those kid size swimming pools, put one upside down on the other and secure it somehow, then cut a "door" out of the top one for the mother to get into (and the pups don't get out.)

Or, get a little tent and put the pool in the tent. Then the pups can stay in the pool with Mom, but she can get out to eat or lay down in the tent area.

Take mom and pups to the humane society, where they will at least be indoors and dry.
