Does the Psssst! still work nowadays?

Well, if it's a guy I don't know, he should just come up, maybe give me a small (but not perverted) compliment like, "I just noticed you across the room and couldn't take my eyes off you." Then you won't seem too much like a stalker. Then introduce yourself and ask for her name. Start talking about things like music, movies, you know, the usual. At the end just say, "I've had a really great time talking with you just now, can I get your number so I can talk to you again?" If the conversation goes smoothly, she'll be glad to give you her number! And psst, doesn't work, I don't think. A lot of times when I hear psst, I don't even think that person's talking to me.

Aproaching is touchy.
Depends on the chemistry between the 2 people, so be on the look out for possitive body language and eye contact.
The rules of engagement are going to vary girl to girl but a man who would have the best success with a female like me would have to be subtle and genuine...nothing abrupt or aggressive...looking me in the eyes, not talkin' to the rack or breaking your neck to get a look around back...and no...no psssst....no "uh hey baby, what's your sign" ...lol No cheesy cliche' come ons. Just express a sincere interest...be yourself and be aware of the tone of her voice as well as that body language.

Well if you are wearing the same scowl as on your Avatar.....I'd start there.
Your question reads like you expect the gals to give you the time of day and thier number.
Approach with a smile, eye contact and be respectful.
If your current approach isn't working....then change your approach. Simple, eh?

Well personally, I think if a guy just comes up and starts talking to me, and just seriously wants to get to know me, I'd be willing to talk to him and give him my number... it's when a guy is getting all cocky or using corny pick-up lines that I'm really not interested.

hey i got this girl number the other day....but she came up to me...lol...i guess it happens all the time for me...lol...you just have to act confindent and look good doing it...smile and make it seem like you are a nice guy...buy her a drink if you are at a bar....be cleaver with your wording...TRY THIS: hey i was wondering if you were giving your number out this evening. make sure she thinks that you are friendly and cool..before asking her for her number though..you will know if she keeps the conversation going...be funny about it...girls like humor...lol

The trick is to not ask for the number first, ask for the number last. First talk, then laugh,, then ask for the number.

I would say if the guy said something funny to make me laugh, it would make me feel comfortable to talk more to him.
