He lays in the sun all day and just lounges around. He eats and is very active. I'm really nervous he is a son to me.

I am sure that there are others that might know better than me. But I have had two boxers and they both got dry rough noses once they got old. I think that it is just part of their aging process. I had one boxer who died at 13 and my boxer now Charlie is 8 yrs old. He has a rough dry nose and his vet never gave me a reason to be concerned about it. Most dogs do have wet nose's, but with my experience with my 2 boxers the only time their nose's were wet was when they were slobbering stuff. If he is still active and acting himself I wouldn't worry about it, but bring it up with his vet and maybe they will give you something for it.

Boxer---that is a dog, not a cat isn't it? Anyways, I just read a couple of answers you received, and NEVER give a dog TYLENOL, it is toxic to dogs and can KILL them. Aspirin is safe to use for pain or fever in a dog, but never use tylenol. The way I remember this, is that it is the oposite of what is safe for children, they can have tylenol, but not aspirin as it can cause reyes syndrome in children under the age of 8 years old. Normal temperature for dogs is about 101

I would guess that if the nose is dry, he is probably not getting enough liquids to keep him hydrated, especially if lying in the sun all day. His nose may also be sunburn and dried out from the sun shining on it. You may want to keep him where he can not spend so much time lying in the sun.

there really isn't much to worry about. there will be times when a dogs nose is very dry. just be sure that he has access to water at all times while he is outside, however if it becomes dry for long periods of time to the point of becoming sore and cracked then you will need to see a vet. another thing to check on a regular basis is the gums above the top teeth, see to it that it is nice and pink. and keep an extra eye on his behaviour. as long as hes eating and drinking regularly, as well as be his usual self. any sudden changes in behaviour or eating habits should be noted as well.
my dogs nose gets dry sometimes when he gets a little too much sun or if he gets too hot. it goes back to normal when hes shaded.
hope that helps

As long as you are making sure that he is getting plenty of water he is fine. It is just like you or me, laying out to much sun and we start to dry out, make sure to keep a bowl out side with plenty of fresh water, and change it often

He's dehaydrated and probably running a fever. Keep him cool and out of the sun for a while. Baby tylenol or St Josephs aspirin is safe to give. Try a FEW ice chips.
