Here are a few links I've found that I hope will be helpful.
Most importantly be sure of their clenliness, Hepitites is easily transferable and if tattoo artists re-use needles it's possible to contract it or something worse.
Best of luck getting your new tattoo.

Well it depends on what info you want.
The normal questions are "did it hurt?" and the answer to that is a very personal thing. What is painful to me may not hurt you.
My tattoo did NOT hurt. There was some minor discomfort, but all in all it wasn't a bad experience during the process.
I am not happy, after the fact, with how it ultimately turned out. So long-term, I will likely have to get some more work done on my tattoo.
I would say pick a design you like. Live with the idea of it for at LEAST a year before you get the design. This is something that will be with you for the rest of your life so planning for 12 months, what you will have for the next 70+ years is a small time to invest.
Find something that is personal for you and has meaning.
Find a location on yoru body you will be happy with NOW and 70 years from now. (Ie: if it the tattoo is not appropriate for all company -- nekid woman, etc-- then make sure you'll be able to cover it up when you're a great grandma if that's what you want to do.)
Find a REPUTABLE tattoo artist. Go in several times for consultations, art discussions, watch him/her work. Make sure the environment is clean, well lit, etc. Talk to some of their clients and make sure everyone is happy with their tattoos and the professionalism of the staff.
Your tattoo artist should have a clean appearance and wear gloves anytime in the actual tattoo chair area. They should be willing to meet with you several times before the actual tattooing. If they don't want to talk with you about you art, your decision to get a tat, etc, then you don't want them to do your artwork.
Tattooing is a very personal experience that means something different for everyone. Find a tattoo artist with similar views and you'll most likely be content.
Again- take your time. This is a life long decision. Divorce from a tattoo is a VERY painful process and VERY costly.

for one i have three tattoos and my first was on a whim but i still like it. my second two took a while i chose what i wanted carefully that way i made the right choice and did not get something that i would regret. so make your tattoo something personal. the one on my wrist is a butterfly and a k and its for my daughter. then when you find something that you like and will be able to live with forever look into tattoo places. and ask anyone you know that has a tattoo and see if they can recomend a good place. you want to go some place clean and steril. if you are uncomfotable about the place go some where else. oh and don't forget make sure you put your tattoo some place you really want it. and will work for you. its your body and you look at it more than anyone else so make sure you get something for you and not because someone wants you to.

Go to a reputable place. Make sure you know what you want and that you know it will be permanent....duh...most tat parlors auto clave their needles but they cannot sterilize the guns them selves and it's been proven that people are being diagnosed with Hep C 20 years after having a tattoo because of flakes of other peoples blood coming off the guns and going into their tat's so make sure the place you go to actually covers the gun with plastic as a preventative measure.

Try the below URL. Answers most questions from what I can tell. Folks here can help as well, especially specifics, after you've had a chance to look through the sections.

First and formost really take time to choose what you want, and where u want it. Keep in mind that it will be there forever. I have a tatoo and i put it on my lower back so i can show it when i want and hide it when i need to. It is also better to get a tatoo of something that is original.

I know that if you are getting one on your lower back, the farther away from the spine it is, the more it is going to hurt because of the nerve endings. I got one on my right lower back and it hurt like hell. It was worth it though!
