why the hell are you breeding your dogs, if you cant even tell if your female is in heat? leave the breeding to the professionals!!! we have enough dogs in this world already!! why dont you do your dog and yourself a favor and get her fixed, she doesnt not deserve to go through a pregnancy with an uneducated and unprepared owner GET HER SPAYED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on the type of dog you have, some do bleed alot.
It can be quite messy indeed. There is something you can
buy at a pet store for your dog to wear at this time. They come
in all sizes. It's like a diaper. It is easy to put on. I just put some
toilet paper or paper towel inside and change it when ever it
needs changing. As far as breeding the dogs, well, nature
will take it's course. You should mark on the calendar the
day she started to bleed, and around ten to thirteen days after
she will be ready to beed. She will stand for him when he
tried to mount her. I have heard alot of other methods, but try
this and I am sure it will work. Also his sperm will be good
for 72 hours, so if they do it every other day that is fine for a
few days.

Well first off this is not her first heat so this is what your best bet is. Have they (your two dogs) been together [as friends] for awhile. It will take a little coaxing from you to hook up! Sit with them in the kitchen and help nature along. Sorry, we have some chihuhuas and we had to help along! This is the time to do it and honestly you can do 1 to 2 more years before cutting her off, out, or whatever.

Please just get her spayed and don't mate her.

I know you want to breed only one litter, but even just one litter adds to the huge problem with overpopulation we already have in this country. There's also so much that could happen when you breed a dog and breeding is truly something that is best left to people who know what they are doing - people who understand canine genetics and are breeding for the best in the breed, not just because their dog is cute, or special, or they want her to experience "being a mom" before spaying. Breeding is a science not to be undertaken lightly.

Quite honestly, if you have to ask how the process works and at what point in the cycle to mate her, then you should not be breeding because you lack the knowledge to do so. There are thousands of websites about dogs on the Internet and many books about responsible breeding as well - please educate yourself before making a decision that could kill your dog as well as her puppies.

Unless your dog is show quality, is a champion, her parents were champions and has been tested for genetic diseases, do not breed.

Regardless of that, alot can go wrong (emergency C-section for example) and the expenses can be quite high. The vaccines alone for the puppies will be hundreds of dollars.

Try to make this short lol..She will be in her prime on the 12 th of her heat cycle. give or take a few days. You can test this by two ways..first rub your hand down her back side if she stands for you an crock her tail she is ready...or you can watch her blood. When it turns a lighter color then she is ready. The best way to tell is by rubbing your hand down her back next to her tail.

If you don't know how and when to breed your female, you shouldn't be doing it. You obviously didn't even have enough sense to buy a book on breeding dogs or whelping puppies...even the library has them!!!

Um..... skip the one litter and just have her fixed, because honestly you should have asked this question 3 years ago when you got her, and if it's just occuring to you now, then you have no business breeding.

you let them do it while she's in heat or she will go out of heat and it will take a while for her to go back in heat

the dog will probably not want to have sex if she is not in heat
