i already use pantene for dark brown, but it faded and now it's a medium brown. i don't want to dye it again for at least a few more weeks because i don't want to overprocess and dye my hair.

Hi, I am a cosmetologist. Well there are several factors before determining what exactly your hair needs in order to make your color last the longest. 1st thing 1st do NOT use a box color that you would get at Walmart or a drugstore. If it has been previously lightened and now you are wanting to go back dark to match your natural matrix has really good color but eventual fading is inevitable. You may eventually just have to cut the damaged hair out because the cuticle may be too damaged to hold color.
On the other hand if you just have naturally light hair that you are wanting to darken after having it colored professionally, DO not wash it for 48-72 hours!! This will help lock the color into your cuticle. After that buy a product that will prolong the color matrix has a great color extender product that you could buy at almost any salon and it is pretty inexpensive. Pantene is very harsh on the hair is has paraffin wax in it that only coats the hair and can cause more damage than good. Hope this helps

I might suggest that you put low lights in your hair, instead of an all over color. This way, you will still have your natural but the low lights will create depth and texture. They will be a little harder to upkeep because you will need to do a touch up when your roots start to grow out but you will notice less of a fade. I would also switch to professional products, color and shampoos. I suggest trying Paul Mitchel or Biolage. They are both good product lines. Using store bought products, Pantene, can actually be one of the reasons your color is fading. If it is high in moisture or is a clarifying shampoo, they will strip the color out of your hair. But you also need to realize that just because the box says its a dark brown, doesn't actually mean that, that is the way it will look on you. I'm assuming your hair is lighter so when you color your hair, the new color will be lighter than the box color.

I also have this problem. Dye will never stay in my hair, and even when I get it dyed at a salon it fades. I was just recently told that if you go to a salon and have your hair basically bleached blonde and THEN dye it darker that it will stay. I'm going to try it soon and hopefully it will work. Go to your hairdresser and ask about it before you do it. Good luck!

In between hair dyes you can use products that stain your hair to keep it fresh. There are mousses that have different shades in brown red and blonde i think. You dont really need a color with amonia in the first place if you are going darker just get dyes that just dye your hair.

The only way to keep it dark is to use a permanent hair color, but even that will grow out as your hair grows. it seems that if it's faded everytime you've colored it then you are using a semi permanent color. try a permenant or go to a salon and have a professional help you!!

Nope, once you dye it you can use shampoo and conditioner for dyed hair to keep it from lifting off your hair. You can also try a brown tinted shampoo.

Use shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. Or use Pantene for browns or John Freida for browns.

Don't use dyed, if u want dark black naturally it is possible. If ur hair is naturally brown then it gets darker, but is not then don't do expriment on it.
Keep natural color to hair.
