All my dogs will chew on table legs, etc if they are allowed. When you see him doing this, say no in a firm voice and then give him an appropriate chew item. Diff dogs like diff things. As far as edible chews, most like rawhide strips. Make sure if you buy the rawhide sticks (which i recommend) get the "compressed" kind and not the "granulated" kind. The granulated is more of a texture like beef jerky kinda and can be eaten in like ten minutes or less. The compressed kind lasts a lot longer. One of my dogs is a small (forty lbs) Beagle/Husky mix and he will work on a five inch compressed chew for about an hour and he usually falls asleep before he is finished. Dentleys is a good brand and makes different flavors in compressed like peanut butter, hickory, beef, etc. Also, there are dental bones like Nylabone that are either hard plastic or rubber and some have ridges for teethers that they can just gnaw on. If one of our dogs is teething, we will put a NylaBone in the freezer so it is cold and soothes their teeth when they chew on it. Also, it has been my experience that the chew repellent sprays like bitter apple do not work. Just make sure you do not get him too big of a bone or chew. It should be slightly larger then the length of the dogs mouth is what i have always heard. PetSmart or PetSmart.com has lots of these mentioned products. GOOD LUCK

I'd try Bitter Apple first, if that doesn't work try putting rubbing alcohol on whatever he's chewing. They hate the smell and taste...it's more of a last resort. Also get plenty of chew toys-Kongs with peanut butter or spray cheese are great or maybe try greenies (good for the teeth) most dogs love them. I'd say though that if he's chewing destructively then he's probably not getting enough excercise and is getting bored. Take long walks and wear him ou! Much luck with your new pup!

When you catch him tell him no bad puppy and give him something else to chew and let him see how happy you are when he chews the toy. Try putting a little bit of bitters where he chews. It's sold in the bar supplies at the supermarket.

He is most likely chewing on furniture out of boredom.Try giving him rawhides or chew toys to keep him occupied. If this doesn't work you can go to any pet store and buy this stuff called bitter apple.Spray it on the areas he is chewing on and when he goes to chew he will hate the taste so much he will never want to touch it again. It is completely safe,I've used it on all of my dogs and none of them are chewers anymore.

My mom bought this bitter stuff from Petco to rub on the wood, my dog hated the taste. Heres a site with some more suggestions about preventing puppies teething

Give him things that are appropriate for him to chew. Get some of that spray that tastes horrible and spray it on the things that he tends to chew. Get him checked to see if he has a health issue. Is he teething?

something you could do (which i tried and tested it with my 2 puppies...) is tobasco sauce. Seriously. Get a little brush and brush it slightly against any furniture. They'll get it first time 'round....
