First of all, nobody here has the right to tell you what drugs to take or not to take. That is an individual decision. As a Registered Nurse, and also from someone who has suffered from depression, it takes many weeks/months and many, possible 'combinations' of medications, to find the perfect drug for you. Without not knowing how long you were on Paxil, or why you were changed to Zoloft, I would give the Zoloft time to take effect. For the 'old' medications, it takes at least 4-6 wks for you to notice an improvement. For the newer medications (Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor), you should notice some improvement in as little as 1-2 weeks.

Also, surf the net for the medications that you are on. WebMD is a good source. Just type in the medication name in the search window, and you can find out everything you want to know about side effects, etc,. Keep in mind, every thing has a side effect. So if you have a little difficulty with a particular med (such as nausea) give the medication some time. Most people don't know it, but some reactions (such as nausea) go away, and are not considered a true 'allergy' to the medication, just a possible reaction.

Hang in there and have faith in your physician. It may take many months to just get the RIGHT combination of medications to work for you, but don't give up. You will start to feel better soon.

FYI: I also suffer from depression, and have tried several medications before me and my doctor, got it RIGHT.

I just took a test that has made my life so much better especially if I have to switch medicine in the future it's called gene sight. I recommend this to everyone that is taking psychotropic and or antipschotic meds. It has so far been accurate. The test predicted my body wouldn't tolerate higher levels of paxil. Let me tell you being at 60 mg was a nightmare. I was barely eating, not sleeping, I was practically home bound. I wish i took the test before going up. But the test was right. Ive been weening myself off and have switched to a less cautuous medicine which seems to be helping so far. If you are having issues with your current medication this will lead you and your physician to the right medicine. No I'm not affiliated with this company. It has helped me so much. Thanks.

If this is the first switch he has made then try it. If it doesn't help then ask to be put on Depakote. Do not let them switch you to Prozac or Lexapro. You may also want to ask about Seroquel, this helps with anxiety and depression, it also helps with sleep.
