Depends on how severe the dementia is. If it has progresssed that you have to protect them from harming themselves then you should seek professional advice or place them in an institution. You can look after them but its like looking after a baby that can walk talk and get into dangerous situations 24 hours a day seven days a week. It is a very taxing responsibility. The institution is not what you want to hear I can understand that. They are professionals at this. Sorry to hear of your problem

That would depend on a lot of things-What kind of dementia do they have? How progressed is their illness? Without knowing that, I can't tell you much.
However, you do need to have patience. Remember that they cannot control their behavior, as frustrating as it may seem to you. If they are having trouble, redirect them. Use simple language that they can understand, and try to avoid using negative words such as "no" and "don't." Try to keep engaging them in activities that they enjoy, such as crafts, games, puzzles, spending time outside, music, etc. To help preserve their memory for longer, you could help them put together a scrapbook or photos album of important people and places in their lives. Put things where they are easy to find. Keep their environment simple, yet warm and inviting. Hope I helped, whatever your situation is.
