It seems you have a very active brain. Dreams are normal. There are a lot of ailments that make your mind not function correctly. I would seek a doctor for more information.

There is no 'cure' for mental illness. To have a mental illness depends on many factors, such as family history (genetics/hereditary), factors in your childhood, and possible chemical imbalances in the brain. It also depends on the type of mental illness you have. Without not knowing much about you, or your history, it's hard to determine what exactly is wrong with you. It sounds like some type of 'psychosis'. I would make an 'immediate' appointment with your physician. Don't be concern if this doctor isn't a psychiatrist/psychologist. He/she can still help you. If you don't have a doctor, than I would highly suggest you go to an ER ASAP. Also, don't be embarrassed....People are learning to accept mental instabilities/problems, more than they used to. In my opinion (personal and professional), every one has some type of mental illness. Most people don't like to tell someone else about anything to do with 'personal' problems/thoughts. But now a days, more people are more open-minded. So again, try and not be embarrassed.
Dreaming is also natural and normal. Many people even read books, etc. to try to find out the 'meaning' of their dreams. But if your having nightmares, this might be related to your psychosis. Good luck to you.
FYI: I myself suffer from depression, so I know a little of what your going through.

What you describe is auditory and visual hallucinations you are experiencing. Yes this can be controlled with medication so your life will be more pleasing and less frightening. Many causes are known for what you experience and in some cases there is no known cause. Please see your doctor for possible physical causes to be investigated/ diagnosed and treated as needed. Ruling out a physical cause is important. If no physical cause is found then your doctor should refer you to a psychiatrists for further assessment and treatment. You may be directed to take medications that will eliminate the hallucinations you experience so continue to take medication as directed. Health center in your area may have a support group you may wish to attend. Help is available but you must take the first step by visiting your doctor. Wishing you good health.

Seek treatment again.
You can not cure a mental illness you can only treat it.
Certain types of mental illnesses can be cured... like certain types of depression. If a person is depressed for a short period of time like from a death to a close realative/friend.. then they can be cured through treatment, however people who have predispositions so certain mental illnesses and have a chemical imbalance can only be treated by correcting the chemical imbalance through a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
