does it bother you if you see a person standing at the freeway exit or entrance or in a shopping mall entrance with a "I'm Homeless, please help" sign while they are smoking a cigarette?

It bothers me yes, but it doesn't stop me from working at my local soup kitchen or giving donations to places that help the homeless.

Yes Midge! Here a solution if going to give to them kinds of homeless people and would be security that you are seeing that your hard working money is be used wisely, leaving you with a feeling you helped feed the homeless by-
Give them Food vouchers!
(Like Mc Donald's, Tim Horton's...)
My son did this all the time when on patrol and told me to do the same.

No. I've given cigarettes to homeless people instead of money before. If I dont have any change I ask if they smoke and if they do I'll give 'em one or two. I've noticed they seem to appreciate that more than a bunch of pennies or whatever. I've given food as well. Does it bother you when you see a homeless person eating?

Midge, how much a week do you give to the poor? Or how much time do you donate? Or isn't that christlike.
I'm glad there are atheists like Jett :)
p.s. Thanks for asking about my area. We do have quite a few homeless, but thanks to a lot of hard work from a lot of great volunteers, we are about to get our first shelter. A link is here http://www.anacortesfamily.org/

yes it bothers me. But at the same time, i can understand an inability to kick a physical and psychological addiction--i feel pity more than bother, that the person wound up there.

If you'd ever been really poor, you'd know that nicotine can cut hunger pangs, and they probably bummed that cigarette or picked up someone's half-smoked pack that they left behind.

Uh yeah. Cigarettes cost about $4.00 per pack. That could buy 4 cans of soup on sale. 4$ can buy a few things if you spend it right.

Heck, no. That nicotine might be the only pleasure they get in life, let 'em have it, I say. I've seen homeless people with dogs, and I don't begrudge them their pets, either.
