For some reason in recent years favors have become a fad... but its just another gimmick to dip into the high funds that surround weddings. Guests rarely remember to take the favors and so unless it is something edible (something that they will likely eat before they ever leave your reception) it is generally wasted money.
It is not tacky or rude to eliminate favors entirely - you're hosting a party where you pay for their food, drinks, and entertainment. You would not go to any other party and expect all of that and a gift too.... don't let the advertisers out there dupe you into feeling guilty. The bottom line is that favors are expensive. Sometimes they cost as much as $2 to $3 a piece and more. Multiply that number by 100 couples who attend a wedding (average) and you’ve spent $200 to $300. If you are on a budget eliminate the favors altogether. That money is better spent on the entertainment and making sure that your guests enjoy themselves. When guests leave your wedding they will remember what a great time they had for years afterword, they will not likely remember the favors at all.

Trixie is right. You don't really HAVE to have favors. No one will really care.
But if you absolutely MUST have something, just have a couple of heart-shaped chocolates (wrapped in gold foil, buy them at wedding places) placed at each table setting. Then each guest can eat them while they're waiting for the meal, or after the meal, or take them home. Maybe one gold and one red (for love).
All the bother putting lace and netting around candles is a waste of time. And really, not everyone is into candles. But everyone likes a little chocolate.

I got married on a very tight budget recently. We actualy did the after dinner mints and also some candles. Simple candles from your local dollar store (usualy about 4-6 per dollar) can be done up very nice with some tule and ribbon. Attach a small tag printable from your own computer found at any walmart or staples and it makes a great gift. Good luck and have fun! Its your day!

I just happened to see your question and I have wedding favors that I had left over on ebay. I will give you the link and you can check it out. If you are on a budget they are really reasonable priced.
Thanks

do something small and usable like the mints or candles that bitty suggested. in my opinion wedding favors that have the bride and groom names etched in a glass, photo frame or things like that are a waste. I see stuff like that at the thrift store all the time people don't really want it. i really don't think wedding favors are even necessary.

You could try The Oriental Trading Company, they have some interesting party favours and ideas you could use.
I would stick to foodie type things, preferably something they can eat before they leave, as after a few drinks and among all the celebrations, favours often get left behind.

Make your own. Get some small candy like mints or M&M's wrap them in some bridal netting and tie with color ribbon. You might want to use the color of the bridesmaid gowns.

I had an idea to make a cd for people or even if you have a recipe for jelly, or honey, or even marinade, put it in a jar and put a label around it.
