i've heard a few times before that buddha said before he died that Buddhism would last for 5000, and then it's gonna be the end of the world.

did he really?

You got it wrong.What the Buddha said was that his teaching(dhamma)will last for 5000 years.Then the world will enter into 'dark age' until the arrival of the next Buddha:the Metteyya Buddha.

No, I have never heard about this. Maybe the belief does exist in some branch of buddhism, but I don't think it's a common belief. It's like how some branches of main religions thought that 2000 was going to be the end of the world(I read this is a nonfiction book, I hope I'm not offending anyone tho...)

to Watchman: Jeez, the way some chinese treat baby girls are revelent to Buddhism. That's like saying McDonalds is God's fault.

It was pretty much the end of the world for the baby girls in Buddhist China, millions of them were and still are aborted.

Not to my knowledge...I've not run across that teaching at all.I'm Tibetan Buddhist.. and I've not heard this one at all.
