The 727-200 hands down is the best looking commercial aircraft in the air today. A clean one is hard to come by, but you can't beat the sleek looks (or the sound of three JT8Ds).

I would have to say the Beech 1900D is the ugliest. Beech has always made a good product, but the 1900D is just a big ugly King Air with alot of crap attached to it to make it fly straight.

I love the looks of the 757. It is long, sleek and mean looking.
The worst looking is the ATR's used by American Eagle in the Caribean. I think everything that Boeing makes is a beautiful airplane with the exception of the 737-200 and the 747SP.
I can't wait to see the new 787 in person.
Airbus has some things that are okay but overall I see it as a cheap 2nd rate company that makes a crappy product. I have never found a pilot or aircraft mechanic that had anything positive to say about Airbus. Airlines buy them because they are cheaper.
I also have to say that I like the L-1011 and MD11.

The best-looking commercial airplanes are the ones in the air. The worst-looking commercial airplanes are the ones in flames on the ground. Other than that, the modern ones all look pretty much the same. But my vote for best-looking would go to the DC-3. They are beautiful. And part of their beauty is that DC-3s have outlasted many commercial airplanes that have come and gone in the DC-3's lifetime. Perhaps the most glaring example is the high-tech, high-speed Concorde. I work in aerospace, and the aircraft I have chosen for my office wall, the ONLY picture of an aircraft in my office, is the original DC-3 on its maiden flight. I agree that the worst-looking is the entire Airbus line. They all look alike, and they all look bad. They're just different sizes. It's as if they hired one guy to design all the planes, got one drawing from him, then fired him.

Best: Boeing 727.

Worst : Shorts 360. I don't know if anyone flies these anymore though.

If not, then the Fokker or Fairchild F-27.

Best looking airliners to my eye: A toss-up between the old DC-9 and the 727. Beautiful, sleek machines.

Worst? Though I haven't seen it in person, the pics of the A-380 would put it at the top of a very short list of uglies. I think almost all aircraft are beautiful.
