Because they like to judge it based on what they've heard before trying it. (for the most part).
I'll agree it's expensive, if you buy it MSRP, however if you purchase it through Newegg, you can get the OEM version of Vista Ultimate for $200. No packaging, no support, just the disc and the keycode. Works for me. I actually got mine (Vista Business) free from Microsoft through the PowerTogether promotion they did several months ago, and I've had it installed for a while, and can't even imagine going back to XP now. It's got several new features that you really just won't notice at first glance, such as the ability to refine what you see in folders sorting by SEVERAL different factors, the instant search capability (which is nothing short of AWESOME), and the built-in widget support, and the nice looking interface.
Not to mention, it seems to run MUCH faster than XP just from what I've seen.
It seems less buggy to me than XP SP2.

I'm not switching because I am happy with WindowsXP and have no need for anything more. Additionally, MS has extended support (excluding technical) for another 5 years. They realize that not everyone is going to rush out to buy a Vista-compatible computer, especially if their computers are relatively new.

The benefits vs. cost cannot be justified and it's too new.
Some hardware that's running XP won't be able to work with Vista. This isn't as big a problem as it was going from Win2K to XP, but still an issue.
You have to look at what you get vs. the cost of acquiring and installing it. Is it really worth it?
It's too new. As with EVERY other major O/S release from microsoft, this one will introduce a lot of problems for those upgrading. A good approach is to wait it out, usually until service pack 1 comes out, and then decide if it's worth it.

I bought the upgrade and tried it. It sucks up resources and many programs do not work with it yet. I switched back to XP, and the Vista is sitrting in my closet.

Having bought one, I can tell you that you may not be able to get a driver for your printer. Many of the manufacturers have not caught up with Microsoft, because they think they have to protect something that they already have a lock on. I am trying to find drivers for a Brother Laser HL-1440. No Luck. Lexmark has one for their xl4770 and HP has one for their Laser 1360 ?

people are not switching over to vista because most of them are not aware of it and no games are meant for it yet so how children can refer to it .

Cause there always hoards of viruses that attack new Windows versions.
Its better to wait till patches are released and loopholes are fixed.
never be the first one or the last one to try out something!

Mostly because it's way WAY unstable and not supported by a LOT of other programs and you have to have a really new/fast PC before it'll run and last it cost too much.
TOO MANY BUGS STILL !!!!!!!!!
