my furnace and water heater are in my utility room as soon as you walk into my back door and it looks horrible how can i hide it???

However you hide it, remember that the furnace and the water heater (if they get their heat from combustion) need air to do their job. Do not deprive them of air or they might begin to produce carbon monoxide.

The other obvious warning is that whatever material is used, it must not come close enough to the heat source so that it is heated anywhere near to the point of combustion.

Perhaps a bi-fold louvered door would work?

Be careful with any kind of curtain. Both the furnace and the water heater need air, and could suck the curtain close to the flame.

How about a folding screen instead? And just tall enough to hide most of the things.

I say that you have the vision of the furnace and what would look best. These other guys had some good suggestion. What is important, is that you are comfortable with the changes. You know yourself what is the best look from your view. Now thats all you need. Hope it turns out for the best.
