If you want to go to the expense you can buy a drinking fountain instead of using a dish. My cat would not drink from a dish at all, I had to turn on the cold water tap and she drank from that. Then I saw the drinking fountain in a pet store, brought it home and now we are both happy. Cats prefer to drink from running water I have since found out and the fountain itself would be too big for your cat to move around. Check it out, I think you will like it and so will your kitty.

One of my cats does this too; apparently it is a lot of fun. She seems to like seeing the water move. When I drop a floating object (like a small bottle) into the water, she starts pawing at it until she gets it out. This is apparently even more fun than moving the water dish. And after she's gotten the toy out, she doesn't play with the water any more for a while.

I used to have a cat that could positioned his paw in the water dish and splash it everywhere in the floor and then dirink it. i don't be responsive to what to tell you. some cats have their very own approaches of doing issues. attempt putting down in basic terms somewhat of water at a time while the cat is thirsty. Then he can no longer waste it.

I think were going to buy something that he cant do that with like one of those water fall dishes maybe thats the only soultion. Best of luck.

I don't know why, but we've had many cats do this. For one set of cats, we had to use an 8 X 8 square glass cake pan, because it was too heavy for them to move. We currently have one girl cat, and she moves a regular soup bowl, but we changed it to one with a flat bottom, and she is okay with that.

cats tend to be mezmorised by liquids (especially if it's moving). My kitten, love watching the shower/taps/people drinking liquids and often try to paw at glasses of liquid. I once heard that cats try to avoid drinking standing water because it stops them getting sick so maybe this comes into it?

Try a slightly elevated dish that holds them, and use a nonskid mat beneath them.
