Why do people think looks are everything?

I am the type of person who looks at more then that. Am I old fasion? Am i doing the right thing? If you care about someone it shouldn't matter, right?

I think you're far more deep than the majority of society. People who tend to be more about how people look don't work too hard to make relationships work.

Here's something to think about: Initially everything is about looks. When you meet a person you are initially attracted or not attracted by how they look, that means physical appearance and how one holds themselves. It's a preprogrammed portion of our brain that looks for mates. We look for mates for the strongest, most secure, and smartest that will be able to keep us and our progeny safe.

It's in the primal parts of our brain, and we all add more complex reasonings and interests as we age. Which is why sometimes you'll look back at your previous boyfriends or lovers and think "why?"

If you do care about someone then no it shouldn't matter.

you are not old fashioned at all. you are most definatetly doing the right thing. and yes if u do care about someone it should not matter at all. but sadly enough our society is based upon looks. most people are cheap and shallow and all they care about is looks. its manly due in part to the televison and movie star image. which is of a women being incredibly thin with perfect skin white teeth and enormous breasts. its horrible of how our world thinks. but luckily if you get to meet that great guy who dosent care whether you are wearing makeup and all dressed up or just in sweats. when you find that giuy he is all worth it. if you like someone who cares only on your looks then its not worth your time for a relationship because it simply isnt worth it at all. good luck for your man hunting!

No! Looks are not everything. So many girls are so blind (like I have at so many times) and just look at looks, sometimes they won't even look beyond. Not all girls want a male model, like are you serious? I crush on guys who have a 'little too much' too! If alot of girls like your personality, then that's good.. so I don't even know why you're asking this question loll.

I dont think you are old fashioned at all. People that judge someone only by there appearance, are shallow and usually their realtionships dont last long. Personality and body language is what brings out alot of the attraction in someone.
So you are doing the right thing.

Of course looks shouldn't matter that much, as long as you have some kind of attraction. You are on the right track-people in this screwed up world put WAY too much emphasis on looks!!!

im more attractive than some of my male friends and as such, get more options for women to choose from. that said, i like pretty girls, but the ethics and personality *must* be a match. and, mind you, pretty is my own definition - that's up to anyone's call.

for long lasting or true relationships, it's gotta be beyond just looks.

Nope, it shouldn't matter...within reason...like if they have three noses and 6 eyes or something and you just can't stand to look at them, then looks matter...but in the long run, looks fade...then you want someone to talk to...not someone who looks great but is really really stupid...

looks are not everything but i do believe it is a big part. you gotta be attracted to the person, to be with them. me, i was with somebody who before i felt was not very attacted, he had too much hair, smiled too wide, spoke too smoothly, and was very wierd to me,.....but then....i started to fall for him and i began to embrace those qualities, till this day.. he is the most beautiful man i have ever seen, because of his personality, in my eyes he was beautiful on the inside which made him even more beautiful on the outside.

cause a the face is the first thing someone sees. if you see someone and they do not talk to you or around you, you can only judge the way they look. ur not old fashion, i do the same thing too. if you ain't treatin me good no matter how good u look, u gots to go!!!
